Girls' Fall Volleyball Registration is Now Open!
|
If your daughter is entering 4th or 5th grade for the 2014-15 School Year, she can now sign up for Girls' Fall Volleyball! The girls will learn the basic skills of the game in a fun and encouraging environment on teams coached by parent volunteers. Practices will be held twice a week at Oak Knoll, while weekly games will be played at Arrillaga Gym in Menlo Park. Games will commence mid-September and end mid-November. And, parents, coaching volleyball is a wonderful volunteer opportunity! No experience is necessary - just a positive attitude and a willingness to bump, set, spike, and dig it! Contact Stefano Baldassi, Patty Buck, Melissa Engelkemier, Julie McEvilly, or Nancy Witeck if you would like to coach or if you have any questions. Register at TeamSnap. The cost for the season is $70; and if you are in need of financial assistance, scholarships are available. For more info regarding Oak Knoll volleyball, visit Oak Knoll After School Sports.

Mandatory Student Re-Enrollment Required by June 30
|
All students in the Menlo Park City School District (MPCSD) must Re-Enroll for 2014-2015 by June 30, 2014. Our schools are severely impacted by increased enrollment, and so we are requiring parents to confirm their spot for the coming school year, as well as verify data on file, and receipt of required annual legal notices and agreements.
The District will contact all families during the week of June 9 with instructions for mandatory online Re-Enrollment for every student who will be attending grades Kindergarten through 8 this fall. If you are NOT planning to return to the District in the fall, please contact the District's Registrar immediately at (650) 321-7140 x 5600 or email registrar@mpcsd.org! Even families that recently registered children for Kindergarten will have to complete the online Re-Enrollment. The District will again be using Infosnap to electronically Re-Enroll students.
The District will send Re-Enrollment information by email to all families with an email address in the MPCSD database. If there is no email address on record for your family, Re-Enrollment instructions will be sent by postal mail. If Internet access is an issue, a computer will be available at the Registrar's office at 181 Encinal Ave., Atherton. Please note that the databases used for PTO and District newsletters are not the same as the MPCSD Registration database. So getting this newsletter does not mean your email is on the Registrar's mailing list. If you have changed your email address in the past year, or if you would like to make sure the correct email address is in the MPCSD Registration database, please email registrar@mpcsd.org and include your name, your child(ren)'s name, school and grade.
Thank you for your cooperation with mandatory student Re-Enrollment. Back to top |

Room Parent Sign-Ups for 2014-15
|
BE AN EARLY BIRD! SIGN UP NOW TO BE A 2014-15 ROOM PARENT!
Don't miss out! Sign up now for one of the most rewarding volunteers roles at Oak Knoll! It's a great way to know firsthand what's going on in your child's class, and to get to know other parents and your child's teacher. Room parents play a critical role at Oak Knoll, coordinating volunteers for class parties, field trips, and in-class volunteering. Being a room parent is fun, typically having 4 room parents per classroom, and it doesn't require lots of on-campus time - so, even if you have little ones still at home or you work full-time, this is a great opportunity for you to get involved!

Attention 5th Graders: Hillview News
|
Hillview Back to School Events and Volunteer News
Incoming 6th Grade Families: We would love to have you get involved in some of the great activities that make Hillview such a great place for our kids.
Back to School Events
- Monday August 18,10:00am-2:00pm, E Komo Mai Luau: Set up and decorate for the first annual Back to School Luau. (Formerly known as Arena Check-in)
- Tuesday August 19 and Wednesday August 20, 11:00am-12:00pm (either or both days), Camp Hillview: Help serve lunches to 6th graders and teachers.
- Friday August 22, time tbd, Camp Hillview: Chaperone pool field trip for 6th graders.
Room Parents
If you are a current elementary room parent or have never been one, we would love for you to transition to a Middle School "Academy Parent."
As an Academy Parent, you would work on a team (Academy Support Team) with other parents to assist the teachers in organizing celebrations, providing volunteers, forwarding school communications and helping with field trips.
Once the Academies are assigned on August 18 (we hope to see you at the Luau), we will get in touch and get you involved.
Hot Lunch
Serving lunch at Hillview takes less than 12 minutes, but it is a great way to connect with the kids. Volunteers arrive 20 minutes early to set up and stay 10 minutes to clean up and stack the lunch bins. It's less than an hour commitment a week and a fun way to meet other parents and see your kids and their friends at school.

The Hillview Service Club would like to invite you to two upcoming events:
Monday June 16, 10:00-11:30am: Join the Hillview Service Club for a welcome to Hillview event. A couple of weeks ago our 5th graders got a little taste of what Hillview is all about. Think they want more? Then mark your calendars for a tour of the school led by 7th and 8th graders! There will be snacks and lots of fun to be had on this special day. Your kids will really get to know their way around the campus and will learn from current students all there is to know about being a Hawk at Hillview!

Last Sunday, Ollie had a BLAST at yet another fantastic
Are You In RUN. In an event that size, there are a lot of volunteers involved, but we would like to give some of our Otter parents a huge high five for ALL the hours of work they put in to make the RUN so successful. Special thanks to:
Allison Chao, Domonique Matthews, Christa Olson, Denise Henry, Amy Thornborrow, Clint Chao, Molly Gibbons, Betsy Muhlner.
Our fourth and fifth graders got to compete in the annual Science Olympiad last Tuesday. This is one of the highlights of 4th and 5th grade and inspires a love for science! Thank you to our Committee Chairs: Carolyn Bowsher, Aparna Bhardwaj, Cara Magliaro, Tracy Watt, Mark Baker and Erica Galles who planned, organized and project managed the event. A huge high five goes to the fourth and fifth grade teachers for preparing the children for this special day, specifically Ms. Nulman and Ms. Sanchez for keeping us organized and lending their expertise and experience to the planning process and to Ms. Tom's class for a great kick off skit. Thank you to our team leads: Reza Raji, Nancy Witeck, Kris Swanson, Rhonda Bucklin, Erika Drazan, Gina Skinner, Michelle Box, Susie Baker, Adrienne Bronstein, Sally Black, Diana Baker, Patti Buck, Betsy Muhlner, Jennifer Levey, Jenny Sullivan, Lalit Shahani, and Nancy Fulton. Lastly, thank you to all the volunteers who helped us on the day! This event needs about 60 volunteers in one morning to make it run smoothly and we couldn't do it without you. THANK YOU!!!

Are You In RUN for Education 2014
|
Are You In RUN for Education presented by Nelson Roberts Investment Advisors - Thank You!
Congratulations to all of the "Are You In RUN" runners, walkers and volunteers! Your support along with our fabulous business and family sponsors raised over $100,000 for our school district! We are all so fortunate to have raised this much-needed funding for our schools.
Your dedication to your school is what brought our entire district and community together. We had close to 1500 registered runners and over 100 volunteers helping us with this event this year. It is your commitment to our schools and your support that makes us all so proud to be a part of this community. THANK YOU!
It took a village to manage, coordinate and organize the RUN this year, but key people who contributed to its success this year include Ben Ewers, Allison Chao, Domonique Matthews, Christa Olson, Denise Henry, Clint Chao, Lisa Lajous, Amy Thornborrow, Sam Bacic, Molly Gibbons, Kim Hinshaw, Linda Mac Donald, Tracy Sartorio, Jennie Lang, Jen Bartle, Amy Coolican, MIke Shoup, Alison Matthews, Amy Courson, Jill Leonard, Susannah Hill, Gina Ryan, Diane Sonsini and Betsy Muhlner and the many, many volunteers at each school (including friends & family members) who helped out pre-race, race day and post-race.
Thank you again for your incredible support of the 2014 Are You In RUN! See you next year!
