Office Reminder

Keep our neighbors happy!

Please help us in supporting our neighbors and DO NOT use their driveways for pick up and drop off. Avoid pulling in driveways to turn around. Our neighbors are patient in dealing with the daily school traffic, and would be appreciative if we respected their boundaries.

Room Parent Sign-Ups for 2014-15

BE AN EARLY BIRD! SIGN UP NOW TO BE A 2014-15 ROOM PARENT!

Don't miss out! Sign up now for one of the most rewarding volunteers roles at Oak Knoll! It's a great way to know firsthand what's going on in your child's class, and to get to know other parents and your child's teacher. Room parents play a critical role at Oak Knoll, coordinating volunteers for class parties, field trips, and in-class volunteering. Being a room parent is fun, typically having 4 room parents per classroom, and it doesn't require lots of on-campus time - so, even if you have little ones still at home or you work full-time, this is a great opportunity for you to get involved!

The school site council is a group of teachers, parents, staff, and students who work together to assist Hillview to 1) develop, review and evaluate the school site plan, 2) oversee site council expenditures, and 3) create, implement and evaluate parents and student survey results. The council generally meets one day a month after school. Each member serves a two year term. All meetings are open to the public.

Interested candidates should submit their name and a brief description of their background and reasons for wanting to serve on the council to Andrea Luskin by May 19. Ollie Salutes

Thank you to the incredible volunteers who helped make our teachers feel appreciated during Teacher Appreciation Week.  Special thanks to our Room Parent Committee Chairs: Janelle McCombs, Janell Sanford and Amy Thornborrow and all the room parents who coordinated the entire week for their classrooms!

Thank you to our Flower Day Committee Chairs: Domonique Matthews and Noelle Carpenter and all the parents who helped them arrange the flowers for our teachers and staff. I'm sure you'll all agree that the flowers that the children brought to school looked beautiful together.

Thanks to Ms. Chiet, our 4th and 5th graders got to spend the morning at the San Francisco Symphony. Ollie would like to give Ms. Chiet a high five for writing the grant to pay for this wonderful experience!

Are We Pushing Too Hard?

Race To Nowhere Film and Panel

Wednesday May 14, 6:30pm

Hillview Performing Arts Center

In an age where our kids are over-scheduled and pressured to perform at increasingly higher levels, Race to Nowhere highlights the growing issues of cheating, anxiety-induced illness, and withdrawal from academics, leading to a new generation of underprepared college students.  With the help of world-renowned Psychologists and Education experts, this film is aimed at helping to change the broken system so that we can raise students to be excited and inspired not only in our schools, but beyond as well. The film will be followed by an expert panel discussing the difficult balancing act of raising teens in today's high-stakes world.
