MPCSD 3rd grade Speech and Debate Tournament hosted by Oak Knoll!

The upcoming MPCSD 3rd Grade Speech and Debate Tournament is scheduled for April 26 (8:30am - 5:00pm) and April 27 (finalist rounds: 9:00am-3:00pm approx.)
Volunteers Needed! Please email Mrs.Gracia if you can help.
In efforts to run a smooth tournament, we still need volunteers for the following responsibilities.
Unless otherwise noted, all volunteers will also be available to judge the debate rounds.
- Food: 3 volunteers to purchase and manage a HEALTHY SNACK STATION during the tournament on April 26 and/or April 27.
- Tournament Check-in: 8 volunteers to check-in parents and students the morning of April 26 and/or April 27 from 7:30-8:30am
- Tournament Set-up: 8 volunteers to help with set-up on Friday, April 25 from 3:00-6:00pm
- Data Management: 3 volunteers to manage the scoring data during the tournament on April 26 and/or April 27 (these volunteers will NOT be able to judge rounds)

5th Grade Graduation T-Shirts
|
ATTENTION FIFTH-GRADE PARENTS: Traditionally fifth-graders wear "graduation" t-shirts on the last day of school for the clap-out (a kind of goodbye ceremony from the teachers and parents). Please order your child's t-shirt by no later than May 18th, giving checks (made out to Oak Knoll PTO) TO YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER. The shirts cost $12 each. March Tokens: Unfortunately we ran out of shamrocks and a few of the mile tokens for March. Stop by the gym after school on Friday, April 25th if you have not received your March tokens.

Fitness Testing: 5th Grade Students who have not completed the Fitness Test will need to complete their make-ups Tuesdays and Fridays during lunch. Please check with Dr. Westfall for the schedule.

The MPAEF Spring Auction Results Are In...
We Raised $280,000 for Our Schools!
Once again, the Laurel, Encinal, Hillview, and Oak Knoll school community delivers! Thanks to the generous support and hard work of parents, teachers, volunteers, staff, students, and local businesses, our spring auction was a resounding success. Together, the on-campus raffle ticket sales, online auction, silent auction, and Saturday's auction event brought in net revenue of $280,000!
A special thank you to all of our donors as well as the 400+ guests who attended A Night in Monte Carlo. We look forward to seeing you all next year.

Please join School Counselor Nicole Scott and School Psychologist Jenny Ryan for a parent book club. We will be reading The Good Enough Child: How to Have an Imperfect Family and Be Perfectly Satisfied by Dr. Brad Sachs. Each week participants will read parts of the book and join other district parents in a lively discussion.
The remaining dates of the Book Club are all Wednesdays 9:30-10:30 at Keplers April 23, April 30, May 7 and May 14.

Teen Spring Book Club
Meetings: April 26 & May 17 from 3-4:30pm. Spring into reading by joining our Book Club program for ages 12 to 18. Teens vote for the book the club reads and then meet again to talk about it over food. Book options are wide open and we encourage you to bring your book suggestion to the first meeting. The Friends of the Menlo Park Library will provide free books and snacks to participants, so sign up today! To register for the Spring Book Club, send an e-mail to Irish.
MPCSD - LCAP Community Forums Coming Soon
The MPCSD staff will present information about the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) and gather information from parents and the local community on April 21 at 6pm and April 28 at 5pm in the TERC building at the District Office, 181 Encinal Avenue, Atherton.
9th Annual M-A High School Big Bear Run
Join over 1000 runners from the community, including M-A athletes and coaches, in supporting M-A Athletics on May 4, 9:00am! This professionally-timed, fun-filled race/walk starts at M-A High School and benefits all M-A sports teams. Online registration is available at active.com (search "M-A Big Bear Run 2014 - 9th Annual") and on the M-A Boosters website. Don't delay as prices increase after April 27! All registrants receive a beloved Big Bear t-shirt. Additionally, new or gently used athletic shoes will be collected the day of the race for donation to charities.
Help your child fall in love with writing!
June 23 - July 1, 9am to 3pm, at Hillview Middle School. Authors, teachers, and musicians are teaming up to help your child fall in love with writing this summer! This two week program allows campers entering grades 2-6 to write, edit, and publish their own eBook under the guidance of professional authors. Lessons are delivered as songs, and new writing skills are practiced through games, theater and songwriting. The program is designed to inspire reluctant writers and delight those that already have "the bug." Learn more by watching the video or calling (415) 322-0511. Face Processing Stanford Research
Stanford Vision lab is looking for participants for a research study on Face Processing. We are currently looking for typically developing children from 7 to 12 years old as a control group for our research on Autism Spectrum Disorder. In our lab we record brain electrical activity in response to visual stimulation. The recording session will last about 1 hour. We are located in Jordal Hall, and will provide a parking permit and a $20 gift card. If interested, please contact Emily Weibel.
City of Menlo Park Summer Camp Fair
Friday May 9, 6-8pm, Arrillaga Family Recreation Center, 700 Alma Street. Join the Community Services Department as we highlight our Summer Camp programs for kids ages 3-15 years. The Fair will also feature family games, a bounce house, camp raffle, announcement of summer youth jobs, and FREE PIZZA! When you register your child at the event, receive 10% OFF all city run camps! The Sequoia Union High School District has a bond up for vote on the Tuesday June 3 election. The district's great high schools have drawn families to its communities, causing a surge in student enrollment, with another 20% growth expected in the next 7 years. Measure A will provide additional classrooms and labs, as well as updated technology to help the district continue its excellent academic programs. City of Menlo Park Annual Kite Day
The Community Services Department will be hosting its Annual Kite Day on Saturday, May 3 from 12 noon to 3pm at Bedwell-Bayfront Park located on Marsh Road at Bayfront Expressway. For $6 you will receive a kite, hot dog, drink and chips or an apple. All ages are welcome. For more information about the event, contact the Community Services Department at (650) 330-2200.
