Ollie Salutes

Ollie would like to send out a huge high five and a massive cheer to our wonderful 4th and 5th graders who took part in Oak Knoll's very own production of The Wizard of Oz.  If you were lucky enough to attend one of our sold out shows you will know what he's talking about.  The students were both courageous and confident on stage!  A special thanks go out to Oak Knoll's own music teacher, Mrs. Tee who spent many hours getting our 65 children ready for their performance - over lunch, after school and at weekends!  THANK YOU!!!  We would also like to thank Dr. Westfall, Mr. Hairston and Mr. Crabbe for their help with the production.  Ollie would also like to thank the Committee Chairs:  Overall and Volunteers - Page Curtin; Promotions - Sonia Domeyko, Francesca Pei, Gale Sasagawa; Costumes - Diane Glasser; and Concessions/Tickets/DVDs - Carolyn Bowsher.  As always at Oak Knoll, it takes a village and it certainly did to put on this show!  Thank you to ALL the parents who stepped up multiple times from sourcing and creating costumers, to overseeing the costume fittings.  From chaperoning the rehearsals and shows to getting the right children on stage at the right time, in the right costume!  From baking items for concessions to managing the concessions sales and ticketing.  We had around 30 parent volunteers throughout the rehearsals and show and are grateful for every one of them!  THANK YOU!!!

Ollie would also like to thank Jenny Sullivan and Kris Swanson who organized the Teacher's Luncheon.  Many thanks to their wonderful assistants Kelly Brennan, Nancy Witeck, Julia Dunn, Michelle Box and Mira Olson!

MPAEF News

Thank You for Making the MPAEF Auctions, Raffle, and Spring Event a Success!

You did it! You made the MPAEF Auction, Raffle and Spring Event a huge success! Thank you for donating amazing parties, events, items, and experiences to the auctions! Thank you for being out there in front of the schools selling and buying raffle tickets. Thank you for participating in the online auction. Thank you for celebrating over 30 years of MPAEF with us at A Night in Monte Carlo on Saturday night! Thank you for donating so generously to the Fund-a-Student program! Thank you to all those in the community who have volunteered time, resources, or energy to make the Spring Auction and Event such a huge success! Thank you for being part of the MPAEF spirit and for supporting our schools. Thank you for being IN!

For over 30 years, MPAEF has provided the Menlo Park City School District with an annual grant, which becomes part of the district operating budget. For over 30 years, the foundation has relied on community volunteers to achieve the financial goals for this grant. Thank you for 31 years and counting of commitment and dedication from families like you!

Oak Knoll's New Buddy Benches

There are two new buddy benches on the Oak Knoll playground. They are a place where students can go when they need someone to play with. Other kids will see them sitting there and ask them to play. You can learn more by clicking here.  Here's a photo of some of our students enjoying one of the new buddy benches!

Our amazing benches were made and donated by a former Oak Knoll dad and friend of the community Oros, and his staff at Ace Hardware in Menlo Park. So the next time you shop at Ace Hardware please say thank you, as the benches are beautiful and will make Oak Knoll an even better place for our children!  Also a big thank you to parent Gina Preston for connecting Oros with Oak Knoll and helping to make this happen!

After School Programs - Spring Schedule Now Available

The After School Program committee has posted the new Spring Schedule here

Please sign up now as classes fill up quickly. We have introduced a new class called Gorilla Play, so please check it out. Also, Rainbow Chefs is offering new classes for this session for your little chefs - Healthy Snacks and Foods From Around the World.

If you have any questions about the new Spring Schedule, please contact either Aarti Chandna or Kimberly Hartz Foster.

Traffic Safety - Important Reminders

Parents please be respectful of our crossing guard, Victor.  Recently we have had a number of parents in their cars ignore his signal to stop when he is on the crosswalk.  This is dangerous to Victor, our children and other pedestrians on the crosswalk.  Please do not ignore Victor.

Also, please make sure you obey the 'No Stopping/No Parking' signs around school - even when it's raining or when you are late.

  • Do not stop your car to drop off your child(ren) in the 'No Stopping' areas.  If you don't want your child to get wet, leave for school earlier and drop your child off in the carline.
  • Do not let your children jump out of the car while you are in line at a stop sign.  You could be putting your child in the path of a biker.  Yes - some students do still bike in the rain!

Thanks for keeping our students and staff safe!
