Alert - Parents and children who ride bicycles to school along Oak Avenue
Review with your children the necessity of crossing Oak Knoll Lane IN THE CROSSWALK, not cutting across the street before the crosswalk. Many of the cyclists who travel along Oak Knoll Lane from Oak Avenue cut across Oak Knoll Lane before the crosswalk to ride their bikes up the rolled curb near the bus stop.
This is very dangerous behavior, not only for the cyclist doing it, but for other cyclists, drivers and the pedestrians on the sidewalk. Please talk to your children about this and think before you, as parents, make the choice to set an example like this.

The MPAEF Participation Challenge is ON at Oak Knoll! 381 Families to Go!
You've heard plenty from us about why the MPAEF Participation Challenge is so important. Now, hear what Oak Knoll's principal has to say -- it's about more than the $50,000 we will earn if 80% of our District families donate to our schools through the Foundation.
Principal Ackerman: Why the Participation Challnge Matters to Oak Knoll
"Really excellent schools can often be measured by their resources and their community engagement. The Participation Challenge is about both of these attributes. Oak Knoll's success is directly dependent on the engagement of its community through the MPAEF."
Read more about what our school principals and our anonymous Challenge donor have to say in our recent edition of the MPAEF newsletter here.
Donate, pledge now and give later, or set up monthly installments at www.mpaef.org by February 28.

Anyway you can bring sports items to the District families will help all the kids win!

"Be a Student Night" - this Thur, Feb 21st, 7pm
Please join us this Thursday, February 21st from 7:00-8:15pm in the Gym for a very special evening as our ART, LIBRARY, MUSIC and P.E. teachers let us "walk in our children's shoes." Mr. Almquist, Ms. Bennion, Ms. Knight, Ms. Chiet, Ms. Tee and Dr. Westfall have planned a fun, interactive night that will allow parents to see what our children experience every day at Oak Knoll.
All parents are encouraged to come meet their children's teachers. This night is a great opportunity to experience the programs at Oak Knoll that our community's donations to the Menlo Park-Atherton Education Foundation (MPAEF) make possible.
Like Back-To-School Night, this event is for parents and guardians only. Please RSVP here to join us for this special night!

KidPower Parent Workshop
In light of the number of recent incidents in the media, Mr.Ackerman, Mrs. Gracia and the PTO thought it would be a good time to give parents help in discussing issues about safety with their children. KidPower was recommended to us and is a Parent Education opportunity.
For Oak Knoll parents and caregivers (adult only event)
Wednesday, February 27th at 6:30-8:30pm
Oak Knoll Gym

People Safety skills help people be safe with people at home, at school, online, out in the world... everywhere. They also help strengthen important relationships. Learn ways to help young people learn and use age-appropriate People Safety skills on an everyday basis to have safer, more positive experiences with people, including strangers, siblings, peers, and other people they know.
During the workshop, we will practice how to help kids:
* Be and act aware and confident
* Check with adults if anything seems unsafe
* Move away from possible problems
* Follow Stranger Safety rules
* Stay safe from hurtful words
* Use voice as a safety tool
* Set clear boundaries
* Say "No" or "Stop" clearly and respectfully
* Deal with other kids poking, pushing, grabbing, etc.
* Use safety plans if lost in a store, park, or library
* Get help from busy adults - and persist!
Please note: This is an adult only event. Please make alternative arrangements for your children.
