Federal Historic Tax Credits: Fuel for Cleveland's Future?
CRS's Annual Luncheon on March 4
Last year Cleveland was hot; this year we're on fire! 2016 will be a historic year with the unveiling of a redesigned Public Square followed swiftly by the Republican National Convention. Behind the scenes, enabling many of the city's redevelopment deals are historic tax credits; they have been the fuel for Cleveland's bright future. Join us from 11:30 a..m to 1:30 p.m. in the Mint Ballroom at The 9 to hear Congressman Mike Turner (R-OH, 10th District), a leader in the field of historic preservation. Congressman Turner will share his experiences as co-chair of the Historic Preservation Caucus and as champion for federal historic tax credits. Thanks to our Platinum Sponsors: Sandvick Architects, Inc. and Precision Environmental Co. and our Gold Sponsors: Coon Restoration and Sealants, Inc. and PCS Builders.

Now's the time to make a donation on your Ohio Tax return to the Ohio History Fund. This Fund was created to promote the preservation and sharing of Ohio's heritage by funding local, regional and statewide projects, programs, and events related to the broad sweep of the state's history. Funded from Ohio tax returns, it is a competitive matching grants program that requires grant recipients to have a matching funding source. Since its inception in 2011, 33 organizations have received funding through the program - putting your tax dollars to work making Ohio a better place to call home.

Thank you for your interest in our SNOOP! of the Drury Plaza Hotel on February 27. Never before have we filled a SNOOP! tour so quickly! Winter Decorative Arts Classes in Hudson
Following up on the highly successful series it offered last winter, Hudson Heritage Association has announced that it will sponsor a four-week course that will examine the history of decorative arts in America. The course, which will examine the evolution of furniture styles, textiles, ceramics, glass sliver and other metals in context of society at large, will begin Monday, February 22. The four-class course will be taught by Christie Borkan, an authority on American and Ohio architecture who has taught and lectured at Hiram College (and who is responsible for the stenciling on the first floor of CRS's Sarah Benedict House). All classes will be held at Hudson's First Congregational Church from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Reserve your spot by February 15.

Shaker Heights Garden Program
On February 21 at 3:00 p.m., the Shaker Historical Society will present the next edition of their "Gracious Gardens of Shaker Heights Series," with a discussion by Dr. Ware Petznick of Mrs. Luthi's Garden. Based on the original receipts in the SHS archives, the discussion will revolve around the original landscaping and gardening design of the Shaker Heights residence built in 1925-26 for Arthur and Helen Luthi. Drawing on clues from the Luthi Garden, Dr. Petznick will expand the discussion to what varieties of plants were available to Shaker Heights' new gardens during the 1920s. Registration is free for SHS Members and $10 for non-members. Call Ruth Zeager at 216-921-1201 to RSVP.
