Legacy City Follow-up Event and Action Agenda Launch
Since the June 2014 Legacy Cities conference held in Cleveland, convening partners have been busy figuring out how best to follow up. It's time! On December 8, the Preservation Rightsizing Network will hold an event in Newark, New Jersey entitled, Legacy City Preservation: A National Conversation on Innovation + Practice. Hear Pecha Kucha-style speakers share innovative preservation projects underway in legacy cities across the nation, get one of the first copies of an action agenda, and tour the in-progress rehabilitation of the Hahne & Co. Building, a 500,000 SF landmarked building. If you are not able to attend the event, you can still get a copy of the action agenda after it has been released on the Preservation Rightsizing Network's website.

Grace Avenue House
Lakewood Celebrates Rehabbed Grace Avenue House
The rehabilitation of the second of two formerly vacant boarding houses in Lakewood is being celebrated. The City of Lakewood, The Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization, and LakewoodAlive joined together to find owner-occupants and developers to renovate the two properties, 1446 Mars Avenue and 1436 Grace Avenue, in an effort to strengthen Lakewood's historic neighborhoods. LakewoodAlive first started looking for a buyer for the Grace Avenue house in December 2013 and the house was purchased in February 2014. The new owners used Cleveland Restoration Society's Heritage Home Program(SM) to obtain low-interest rate financing to transform the property back to a single-family home. While the City of Lakewood chose not to participate in the Heritage Program in 2015, CRS is hopeful that the City will bring the program back to its residents in 2016, allowing for success stories like the Grace Avenue house once again.

Church Reuse Plans Approved
The Cleveland Heights Planning Commission has approved the adaptive reuse of Grace Lutheran Church as an office after the church's congregation had been shrinking and was looking for a buyer. Some developers wanted to demolish the church and build a new structure on the land. Holden Troutman of Horizon Health Services, a home health care provider, presented plans to maintain the exterior of the building, with only minor changes to the interior. The congregation is excited that Troutman loves the architectural splendor of the building and has the resources to care for it into the future.
