Don't take our word for it - see it for yourself! Fred and Greg Geis of the Geis Companies had led this ingenious project, and we will be celebrating their accomplishments at the benefit. Individual tickets start at $175; tables start at $2,500. Click here to register. Don't miss 10/11 at The 9!

Cuyahoga Valley National Park Receives Grant

The Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park has been awarded a $1 million grant from The GAR Foundation. The funds will go toward two critical park priorities: developing a new visitor center and maintaining park trails through the TRAILS FOREVER Legacy Fund. CVNP currently lacks a full-service visitor center that can provide visitors with an adequate orientation to the park. There is currently a proposal to transform the historic property currently known as Zielenski Court (in the Village of Boston) into a central gathering point. The park envisions a one-stop destination where visitors can organize their time at CVNP, the Ohio & Erie Canalway, and other tourism assets in the Akron and Cleveland area. Congratulations!

Transfiguration window

Historic Window Reused

This historic window was removed from Church of the Transfiguration on Euclid Avenue in 2013 by Arclight Glassworks, just prior to the building being demolished. The window was completely rebuilt, along with a new wood framework, and was recently installed at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Kirtland Hills. It was dedicated by Pastor Kelly Kirby on Sunday, August 10.

Ohio Arts Council is recruiting for 2015 Panelists

The Ohio Arts Council is beginning its annual process of identifying and recruiting arts and cultural professionals to serve on OAC panels next spring. Arts administrators, arts educators, creative economy experts, practicing artists and other qualified individuals are needed from all arts genres. The OAC works to create balanced panels that reflect an appropriate mix of diversity in panelist background, geography, age, gender and ethnicity. Do you know a talented colleague who has never served on an OAC panel? Have you worked with talented consultants, volunteers, grant writers or emerging arts leaders eager to expand their skills? Or are you interested in serving yourself? If so, OAC would love to receive a nomination for panel membership. Fill out the online nomination form, or forward a note of interest with a current bio or resume to Dan Katona.

Cincinnati 11 Most Endangered

Update on Cincinnati's Endangered Landmarks

After the National Trust for Historic Preservation placed Cincinnati's Union Terminal and Music Hall on its list of 11 Most Endangered Buildings earlier this year, support from across the country has been voiced for these two buildings. Over 10,000 people signed the Trust's petition to put rehabilitation funding for both buildings on the ballot this November. However, last month two of the Hamilton County Commissioners chose to advance a quarter-cent sales tax in support of Union Terminal only. On Tuesday, September 2, the Cincinnati Museum Center's Board of Trustees announced their intention to pursue the full restoration of Union Terminal using private donations, historic tax credits and grants, and the proceeds from the quarter-cent sales tax increase that will now be on the ballot November 4. If passed, this will result in approximately $170 million in funds to repair Union Terminal. Although Music Hall is not part of the sales tax, plans are still under development to seek alternate funding for its restoration. Stay tuned!

Lakewood Home Tour 2014

"Come Home to Lakewood" House and Garden Tour

This year's "Come Home to Lakewood" House and Garden Tour has something for everyone! The House Tour weekend begins at the Patron Party on Saturday, September 6, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. The Patron Party house, not on Sunday's tour, is a lakefront with unique Tudor ornamentation inside and out. The tour takes place on Sunday, September 7, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. Focusing on the city's love of preservation and history, this tour surveys Lakewood's diverse housing stock: an elegant English Tudor, a stately Colonial Revival, an Arts and Crafts bungalow, a mid-century condo, a delightful English cottage, a Victorian under construction and a completely renovated Colonial Revival. Also included on the tour are the newly remodeled Lakewood Methodist Church sanctuary and the soaring stained glass ceiling of the renovated lobby of First Federal Lakewood, and a newly built two-story garage built through a collaboration with Westshore Vocational School. The properties on the tour were chosen from community nominations and are sure to become favorites. The House Tour weekend is a major source of operating funds for Lakewood Historical Society. Advance sale tickets for the events can be purchased by mail, at the Oldest Stone House, online at [email protected], or at the selected retail outlets in Lakewood. A limited number of tickets may be available the day of the tour at the Nicholson House. For more information, call 216-331-7343.

See Conservation of a Sacred Landmark Up Close in Tremont

A century-old, 24-foot high Hungarian hand-carved wooden and gold icon screen and turn-of-the-century American art glass windows are receiving new life during the restoration of Holy Ghost Church in Tremont. You can witness the process firsthand and see how this historic building is being made new during the Tremont Art Walk on Friday, September 12  from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. A team from Intermuseum Conservation Association, the oldest not-for-profit regional art conservation center in the country, is completing the project. You may also view the restoration process Monday, September 15 through Friday, September 19 between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. as the conservation team continues their on-site work. West 25th Street/Pearl Road Corridor Initiative

Cleveland Neighborhood Progress has re-convened a stakeholder group for the West 25th/Pearl Road Corridor Initiative. This comes in response to two important developments: (1) the announcement of the MetroHealth Campus Transformation and (2) the commitment of resources from Enterprise Community Partners to support a W. 25th Transit Oriented Development Study for the portion of the road stretching from the lake at the northernmost end to Downtown Old Brooklyn on the south end. The intention is to continue to move this corridor initiative forward, using the Greater University Circle initiative as a meaningful local precedent for how to take this kind of work into a development/implementation phase. Cleveland Neighborhood Progress will hold two charrettes that are open to the public. The first one will be on September 16 (6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Saint Wendelin Catholic Church, 2281 Columbus Rd., Cleveland) and the second one will be on October 16, also at Saint Wendelin. For more information, contact Zoe Mueller at [email protected].
