Can You Compete? The 2014 Neal Awards Open For EntriesSubmissions are now being accepted for the 2014 Jesse H. Neal Awards competition. Now in its 60th year, the Neals are business media's most esteemed and sought-after awards, dubbed "the Pulitzer Prize of business media." During this year's competition, editors will submit an estimated 700 entries, in 21 categories, which will be evaluated on three criteria: editorial craftsmanship, journalistic enterprise and significance to the field served. What LinkedIn Means For B-to-B Marketing -- And Publishers
In a post on TheGuardian.com, writer David Benady endorses LinkedIn as the "first port of call" platform for business-to-business marketers. He writes that b-to-b marketers overlooking the social network could be missing a huge opportunity. While it's clear that LinkedIn is becoming a major game changer in publishing content for professionals, the platform has also silently built up other offerings for b-to-b marketers, including advertisements and lead generation, the same services trade publishers today offer their clients. SourceMedia's First Chief Digital Officer To Focus On The User ExperienceOver the past couple of years, SourceMedia has placed a strong focus on digital, calling itself "digital-centric" and hiring dozens of key digital employees, including naming Minna Rhee as chief digital officer last month.

17 B-to-B Pubs Launched During First Nine Months Of 2013More business-to-business magazines launched than closed during the first nine months of 2013, according to the latest numbers by MediaFinder.com, an online database of of U.S. and Canadian periodicals. During the first nine months, 17 b-to-b magazines launched while 11 closed. During the same period in 2012, 25 business magazines launched while 12 closed.
"The slowdown in magazine launches continued, but so did the slowdown in magazine closures," said Trish Hagood, president of MediaFinder.com, in a release. Hagood also noted an increase in M&A activity, including Stagnito Media's acquisition of Tesoro Business Media last month. In total (including consumer magazines), 138 magazines launched during this first nine months and 45 magazines closed.

Top Media Moves
SIIA, the parent company of ABM, has named Heather Cejovic as director of sponsorships and recruitment. In her new role, she will work with SIIA and ABM to recruit members and sponsorships. Most recently, Cejovic was vice president of client services at Computer Fulfillment.
Brian Casey has been named the new president and CEO of CEIR (Center for Exhibition Industry Research), effective Dec. 2013. Currently, Casey is vice president and general manager for the Cleveland Global Center for Health Innovation & Convention Center.
Steve Arend has joined Vance Publishing Corporation as vice president of data products. In this new role, Arend is tasked with leading Vance's data businesses. Most recently, Arend was director of user experience and client solution architect at Reaction Stream LLC.
