Allured Business Media To Spin Off Events Department As Standalone Event Company Allured Business Media has launched an event management company, Allured Global Events, which will operate as a standalone business. Conceived by Sandy Chapin, a veteran events professional and head of events at the b-to-b publisher, the company launches after a year of conceptualizing. Allured Global Events came into fruition after Chapin approached the media company's president, Janet Ludwig, with the idea.
"Just like any business owner, Janet is looking to grow her business," says Chapin. "With the print publishing industry declining, every publisher is faced with reinventing themselves and getting back into full-growth mode." Read more.

Tomorrow: Learn How To Control Your Personal Brand
You've heard about journalists and personal branding for a few years now, and if you're like most journalists, you thought: * Oh, that's just a buzz phrase. * Isn't branding just marketing? * Isn't branding just selling out? * Or, but my work should stand for itself. Some of that is true, but the reality is that you are branding yourself, whether intentionally or not. In a webinar tomorrow, Robin J. Phillips, digital director at the Reynolds Center for Business, will explore ways you can grab the branding wheel and take control of it.
Tomorrow's webinar, "Personal Branding for Journalists," is the first of three focused on editorial training and produced by ABM's Editorial Committee and the Construction Writers Association (CWA). The webinar is free for ABM, SIIA, SIPA and CWA members and $125 for non-members. For more information, and to register, click here.

In a webinar last week, produced by ABM, SIIA and SIPA, two digital executives, Larry Schwartz, president of Newstex, and Ed Keating, chief content Officer of BLR, explored these questions and more through a series of case studies.
When choosing a business model, said Keating, publishers should first figure out why they are embarking on an mobile app initiative. "It's really about what you are trying to accomplish when building a mobile app," he said. "All the critical operational decisions that follow are predicated on the choice of business model, so make sure you choose your model wisely." Read more.
