WHAT A NIGHT!
What an amazing evening! Many thanks to the Derby Chair, Tina Kim, and her awesome team! Thanks to all who attended and all who participate "off site" through the online and Super Secret Silent Auction! It is such a treat to be part of this wonderful school community!
SPRING BREAK
Next week is Spring Break. The campus is closed; Kids' Club is open all week, regular hours. Have a safe, fun, relaxing, exciting - whatever-you-want-it-to-be break!
FOUR OUT OF TEN
Next time you're standing around with nine other parents, picture this: Four of you have donated to WCEF this year. You'll be hearing some pleas in the next few weeks. WCEF is far below its annual goal. If you're part of the 40%, THANK YOU! If you haven't donated yet, please do. THANK YOU!
One last plea...WCEF K-12 has made one last plea for donations for this year. If we don't make budget, it is most likely that we will lose weeks of Art, Music, and PE next year. This also cuts our teachers' treasured planning and professional development time. As we look forward to the Common Core State Standards in 2014, this planning time is more important than ever. Please help us maintain this time for our kids and teaching staff. Thanks again.

President's Message |
by Mary Beth Moura
A huge THANK YOU to Auction Chair Tina Kim for a fantastic fun time at Saturday night's Derby. Critical team members included, Hilary Amescua, Madeleine Bronstone, Lisa Royere, Anu Gandhi, Angela Cartwright, Stephanie Foster and in true Walnut Heights fashion, too many names to list. You know who you are. Each and every one of your contributions of time and energy helped make this evening a success. Thank You.
A special thank you goes to the Indian Valley moms who offered up their Saturday afternoon to help with set up when they learned our auction was the same day as Susan's memorial service.
Next week is Spring Break (April 1-5). Cherish this time with your family and take lots of pictures. Your kids are only this age once.
Please join us for the next PTA meeting Thursday April 11 at 7p.m in the library. The meeting will include elections of your 2013-2014 executive Board. | |

Tie dye scarves to honor Susan a huge success! |
Scarves for Susan has been a huge success and a very healing way to honor the life of an incredible woman. Susan would be so happy to know we have, so far, raised over $5,000 for WCEF. If you placed an order but did not receive a scarf or would like to order more, please email scarvesforsusan@gmail.com. We will be accepting orders through the end of March. The final scarves will be ready the week of April 8. |
Honorary Service Awards 2013 |
by Suzy Kisylia
We have terrific volunteers here at Walnut Heights! It's time to recognize those individuals who go that extra mile in helping our children. Every year, Walnut Heights honors parents, teachers and community volunteers for outstanding service to our youth. Donations are made by the Walnut Heights PTA on behalf of the recipients. Funds derived from the HSA program support the California State PTA scholarship and grants programs.
Please help by nominating those individuals who you feel are exceptional volunteers, leaders, and supporters of our school community. Think of parents who you know are always helping at school, teachers who ran programs on their own time, anyone who goes above and beyond. We need your help in recognizing these hard workers and the time they so generously donate!
Please email me with names and their involvement. You can also fill out the following form and put it in the Historian box in the office. |
WCEF Budget Discussions Underway for the 2013-2014 School Year |

As WCEF begins planning with the Districts for the 2013-2014 school year, one of our first steps is to analyze current donation levels and volunteer involvement. With 2012-2013 donations falling significantly short this year ($136,000 still needed), WCEF must evaluate reducing the funds it commits to our districts on behalf of our children. Upon making that determination, it will be up to the Governing Boards to determine their funding priorities and how the reduced budget will translate into our student's day. A reduction in WCEF funded services can be avoided if the $136,000 is raised before April 15, 2013. If you have not yet made your WCEF donation for the current 2012-2013 school year, please go online and make your donation today. Remember a donation in any amount makes a difference in the lives of our students. |
