Tellington TTouch
workshops with dogs

General information:

Both weekend and three-day workshops are appropriate for those wanting skills to help their own animals, and for those already working professionally with animals. Dog trainers may earn CCPDT CEU's by attending either workshop.

Attendance at a three-day introductory workshop counts
towards certification in the Practitioner Training Program. Students attending two such workshops will be considered to have completed the first or second session of the six trainings required for certification.

Attendance at the weekend workshop gives a credit of $100 towards an introductory 6-day TTouch training taken within one year.

What to expect...

All workshops cover the principles and basic skills of hands-on and movement work.

The first day offers an introduction to the TTouch techniques. These will be put into practice in identifying and addressing the specific needs of the dogs that are present. Such needs might  include reactivity, barking, fearfulness, inappropriate behaviors, apparent inability to learn, etc..

The second day adds another layer of precision and detail to the skills and information. We will also observe and hear how the work of the previous day might have influenced the dogs, and explore what further work would be appropriate.

The third day will be spent clarifying and confirming the skills that were learned on the weekend and adding more - those that were not covered on the weekend, and others considered more advanced. The intention is that you will leave with a solid understanding of the basic techniques of TTouch, and and idea of when and how to apply them.

It is not required that you bring a dog. If you would like help with your dog, do bring him or her.  If you come alone you will learn just as much - and can take TTouch skills back to animals you chose to leave at home. Contact the teacher if you have questions about the curriculum or if you are concerned about whether or not you should bring your dog.

Requirements for bringing a dog.

1. Part of our work will not involve the dogs. We may be working with other animals or involved in exercises with people. Therefore, all dogs must have the opportunity for "down time" in a space where they feel comfortable. This time for the dogs is also critical for their learning and can be achieved by:
  • Crating (in some cases a crate/kennel could be provided if you are unable to bring your own)
  • Staying in the car - which is of course weather and/or shade dependent
  • Simply staying quietly tied up on a mat at the side of the room if that is possible for your dog in a strange environment and is not distracting to other dogs
  • We will always consider other creative options.

2. Some dogs attending the training may not be comfortable about being approached by other dogs or people they don't know. Please be responsible for your dog by keeping him or her away from other dogs. Please ask a dog's person for permission before petting their dog. Dogs should be on a leash at all times unless they are in a designated off-leash play area.

3. Please check with the instructor if you wish to give your dog a high-value treat or toy when in the company of other dogs.

4. Please bring with you a flat (or rolled) collar and standard (non-flexi) leash in addition to any other training /leading equipment you may normally use. Also bring anything else your dog might need to be comfortable such as a blanket, bed and water bowl, toys, etc.

 5. If your dog has a history of reactivity and we have determined that it is appropriate for you to bring your dog, we may require you to bring a comfortably fitting muzzle, particularly if the dog has bitten. The purpose of the muzzle is to make it possible to work with your dog safely without an increased level of human anxiety. We recommend a basket muzzle in which the dog can open his/her mouth easily and be able to take a treat.

7. All dogs require proof of rabies vaccination. You will be advised of any other vaccination requirements with your training information.

Attendance of your dog at the training implies acceptance of the above requirements.
