Dear Match Support Specialist,

Lately, it's hard to make time in my schedule so my Little and I can get together.  I'm worried we're not spending enough time together.  But I am just REALLY overwhelmed with work and family stuff right now.  Will my Little understand if we take a break?

Sincerely, Overwhelmed in Overdrive

Dear Overwhelmed,

Take a deep breath!  Congratulate yourself for taking the time to reach out and let us know what's going on!  You're right to be worried.  Regular, consistent one-to-one time together is a vital for an effective and positive relationship which will result in positive impacts for your Little. But don't despair, you may not need to take a break. I have some simple suggestions that can help you stay close to your Little, WITHOUT adding another obligation to your schedule.

  1. Stop thinking about "making time" and start thinking more about "sharing time."  Remember that washing your car, grocery shopping, going to the gym, writing thank you cards, watching the big game, and lawn care can all be fun and interesting for kids.  Think about the things you have to do anyway, and get creative about inviting your Little to join you. These kinds of activities help them learn vital skills and healthy activities that they will need when they grow up. Also, it gives your Little a chance to feel like he is doing something useful and helpful for you, which can be a huge boost to self-worth. Most importantly, it's a way for your Little to just be with you and feel that you enjoy having him around...priceless.
  2. Communicate clearly with your Little, his parents and your Match Support Specialist about...

Tax deductions

With tax day just around the corner, we are pleased to inform you that you may be entitled to the following tax deductions:
  • You may deduct mileage incurred in picking up and driving your Little around.
  • You may also deduct the cost of meals, movie tickets, museum admissions, etc. spent for your Little. However, you are not able deduct the costs you incur for your own meals, tickets, etc.
  • Please maintain adequate records to support your deduction.
  • Please consult your tax advisor for more information.

While we encourage quality, low cost activities rather than high cost activities, we trust that you will find the above information useful.
