Garden Design diploma graduates stole the show at this year's Boston Flower Show when their garden won no less than 5 awards - something of a record for over 30 years.
Moira Farnham and Robin Templar Williams commented "This year's success is remarkable and something that we are really proud to be associated with. The flower show team worked tirelessly to produce their show garden, and something of this standard and level of creativity rightly deserve the recognition received... What a start to five very promising careers!".
Yankee Ingenuity and Southern Charm
This is the second year that Garden Design School USA secured an opportunity for its graduate students to participate in the Boston Flower Show, which is one of New England's most anticipated annual garden and trade events, running for over 100 years.
Kathy Schofield explains "As students this journey began as an opportunity to tap into the industry, begin to network, and put into practice all that we learned in the classroom. Team meetings began in July shortly after graduation, and it was clear we needed to develop a solid plan and hit the ground running. Several proposals and many drafts later the final design was in place along with a plan to reach our financial target."
As the weeks progressed the team found nurseries willing to donate or loan plant material including 200 hellebores, 75 ferns and 40 irises. The next hurdle was to acquire construction materials - some of which were donated, many of which they hope to reuse in future projects.

A little yankee ingenuity transformed salvaged display walls parked at a dumpster into the industrial backdrop of the rooftop garden display. In addition a door, windows, light fixtures, and industrial tubs (also salvaged) were transformed to bring the lush urban chic garden to life.
Kathy Schofield, Betsy Gritman, Larry MacDonnell, Nancy Mellen and Jamie Ross said they were overwhelmed by their success and the recognition received, and were keen to acknowledge the support given by Lauren Miklavic. Lauren graduated in 2010 and is the current administrator of Garden Design School USA. She was part of the team that first broke ground at the Boston Flower Show in 2011, and provided invaluable insight and support.
