Society of Garden Designers Award Winner 2012

We are delighted to announce that one of our 2011 graduates - Frances Brown - scooped the first prize in this year's prestigious hand-drawn category of the Society of Garden Designers Awards, fighting off fierce nationwide competition. SGD winner_edition_1

The SGD recognise that today's designers have an ever-increasing choice of illustrative techniques, and created this opportunity for students to show off their skills of axonometric, isometric or perspective sketching.

Frances comments "Winning this award has been such an honour, and has proved to be a valuable asset when marketing my new garden design business".

2012 Boston Flower Show

For the second year running, Garden Design School has secured an opportunity for its graduates in the US to participate in one of New England's most anticipated garden and trade show events - The Boston Flower Show.

The 5-strong team of 2011 graduates started planning in July, and have invested a further 7 hard months of intensive planning and preparation to get them to this point. They selected the theme 'Yankee ingenuity and southern charm', aiming to develop a garden that makes a lasting impression with the tens of thousands of expected visitors.

The show is now just weeks away (March 14-18th) so excitement and anticipation are reaching a crescendo. Pictures of the final show garden will be included on our website as soon as they are available, and we ask that you join us in wishing Kathy Schofield and her team all the very best.

NEW Case Study - Kim Zorniger

Kim was a member of the first Diploma class of Garden Design School to be taught in the USA in 2008.  Here she tells us about her study experience and shares how her business is already thriving.

"I had been involved in gardening for my own pleasure for years and my children were growing up and leaving to go to college, so I thought it was the perfect time for me to begin a new career.  Since we were the first USA class, none of us really knew what we would learn or where it would take us - it was definitely a leap of faith.

"The program turned out to be fantastic and everything I needed to launch my new career.  I opened my business, Garden Gate Designs in the spring of 2010.  I had a tremendous year my first year and many repeat customers my second year.  Rob and Moira gave me the skills and confidence to tackle any size project and I have even entered into the commercial market.  I am so lucky to have found a new career path that is fun and exciting and I look forward to many years of designing gardens and beautiful spaces!"
