Leupold has introduced the next generation in long-range and close-quarter hybrid battlefield optics with the Dual Aperture Gunsight Riflescope. It integrates the Leupold Mark 6 3-18x44mm riflescope with the CQB-proven Aimpoint Micro T-1. It permits operation from 1x to 18x in a fraction of a second with an overall length of less than 12 inches and weighing just 34.2 ounces. Leupold engineering redesigned the elevation turret to reduce the centerline distance between the two optics to 1¾ of an inch. This greatly increases the speed of target acquisition for CQB engagements.

Vice-President Nominee Keynotes

Sportsmen's Super-Rally

Before a sold-out audience of hunters, anglers, trappers and U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance members, 2012 Republican Vice Presidential nominee Congressman Paul Ryan let the gathered know-he's one of them. He also had praise for the benefits of hunting and fishing.

"Hunters and anglers are the best conservationists. It is very critical that we pass it on to the next generation," said Congressman Ryan. "Youth learn such great life lessons when you take them hunting."

Ryan spoke about his experience as a hunter, and how this influence helps him make critical conservation and natural resources decisions as an elected official. Plus, he noted how important the 2012 election is to sportsmen and women.

Ryan was the headline speaker at the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance Annual "Save Our Heritage" Rally on Saturday, September 29 in Columbus, Ohio. Numerous sportsmen's clubs, conservation organizations, state wildlife agency employees, and sportsmen and women gathered to hear firsthand the Congressman's views on hunting, trapping and fishing.

"Congressman Ryan's speech at this prestigious national sportsmen's event clearly shows how important the votes of sportsmen and women are this year," said USSA President and CEO Bud Pidgeon. "The Republican Vice-President nominee proved he truly understands our issues and is a strong champion of our hunting heritage. Regardless of your political affiliation, you understand he's definitely one of us."

Lead Bullets Under Fire

In a September 27th article in The Washington Times, journalist Emily Miller underscored that elections have consequences. Miller pointed out that an Obama win in November would see a renewed effort to ban all forms of lead ammunition. "Just two months after he moved into the White House the National Park Service suddenly announced it was banning lead bullets from its parks. The blowback from sportsmen was intense, so the agency backed down," she wrote. As a lame duck president Obama will no longer be beholden to anyone and pundits suggest he'll mount a full front assault on the second amendment. Uber liberal groups such as the Humane Society, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the Center for Biological Diversity will go into overdrive in their attempt to get legislation passed that will irrevocably damage the rights of law abiding citizens to own a firearm or hunt. Pro Second Amendment advocacy groups are citing the upcoming election as the most important gun rights related election in history point out that at least two U.S. Supreme Court seats could open up for appointment by Obama.

ATK to Continue Lake City

Army Ammunition Plant

ATK has been selected by the U.S. Army to produce ammunition and continued the operation and maintenance of the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant (LCAAP) in Independence, Mo. The initial contracts period is seven years, and if all award terms are exercised, the contracts would cover a 10-year period. "ATK is proud to continue our collaboration with the U.S. Army, building on more than a decade of direct operational experience, to assure the continued health and vitality of the small-caliber ammunition enterprise," said Mark DeYoung, President and CEO. "Our vision for Lake City reasserts our commitment to deliver safe, affordable solutions that ensure LCAAP remains the most responsive military industrial asset in the world." ATK is an aerospace, defense, and commercial products company with operations in 21 states, Puerto Rico, and internationally. "We are honored with the responsibility to continue operating this key military industrial base capability. ATK is committed to the future success of our warfighters by optimizing and sustaining LCAAP," said Mike Kahn, President of ATK Defense. "We are fully committed to delivering to our customer a lean, scalable and sustainable operation that will serve our nation for years to come."

School Forces Deaf Preschooler Named Hunter to Change Name Sign

In years past, zero-tolerance weapons policies in overzealous school districts have ensnared students for "weapons" such as a Cub Scout camping utensil, a two-inch Lego toy gun and even a misappropriated chicken finger. But last month, Grand Island Public School officials in Grand Island, Neb. went for the record in zero-tolerance hysteria when they sought to bar a three-year-old deaf student from using his name. The student is Hunter Spanjer, who communicates using a modified version of American Sign Language called Signing Exact English (SEE) which is often used with young children to help bolster their English skills. The registered sign for Hunter's name is the forefinger and middle fingers crossed and extended, slightly resembling the ASL sign for gun. Hunter's parents were told by school administrators that the name sign would need to be changed as it violated the school's weapons policy." Grand Island Public Schools Marketing and Communication Coordinator Jack Sheard told the New York Daily News that the sign was "not an appropriate thing to do in school." After taking their story to the local media, the Spanjers have received a nationwide outpouring of support. Thousands have taken to Facebook and online petition sites to register their disgust, and hundreds of others have contacted the school district by phone and email. Following the public outcry and threats of legal action, the school system appears to be backing away from its original position. [Source: NRA/ILA]

Walther Issues Recall on PK380 Pistols PIC

100512d

During an internal quality review, Carl Walther has identified a condition that may exist in certain

PK380 pistols which may permit a round to be discharged if the trigger is pulled despite engagement of the manual safety. Walther has found that engagement of the manual safety may not prevent firing of a chambered round when the trigger is pulled. This recall applies to Walther PK380, .380 ACP pistols manufactured by Carl Walther from May through September 2012, which have a serial number range from PK101201 to PK112155. Stop using your pistol and return it to WaltherAmerica at once. Any unintended discharge of a firearm has the potential to cause injury, and we ask that you stop using your pistol until we have an opportunity to inspect it to make certain that there is no condition which will allow the pistol to discharge with the safety engaged. To facilitate the inspection and repair, if necessary, of your pistol, please contact Waltheramerica's customer service department at 800-713-0356 to receive instructions and a call tag for the return of your pistol to Waltheramerica. Additional information will be posted on Waltheramerica.com.
