Marlin to Close Connecticut Facility
The Freedom Group has announced it will be closing its Marlin manufacturing facility in North Haven, Connecticut but it will not affect customers' shipments or the range of Marlin product offerings. The Freedom Group is evaluating several relocation options and will announce the future production site of Marlin firearms when the final decision is made. "As competition in today's global marketplace remains intense, consolidation of our manufacturing processes and operating systems allow us to provide Marlin customers with the highest quality products at competitive prices," said Ted Torbeck, Freedom Group's CEO. "We are committed to the Marlin brand, its core product offerings and bringing innovative new Marlin firearms to our customers." The closing, which will result in laying off 265 workers, marks the end of a legendary period of gun-making in New England. Marlin has produced firearms in Connecticut since 1870, when the company was founded by John M. Marlin. The company will keep all existing tooling and has affirmed that all employees that are laid off will be given the opportunity to apply for positions at the new facility wherever it is located. |

Fast and Furious Report
Pulls Punches on Holder
The "Fast and Furious" report was released this week by the Department of Justice Inspector General's office. It cites 14 BATFE officials as key perpetrators of the program but does not place any of the blame on Attorney General Eric Holder. The report calls for action to be taken against 14 lower-level agents and officials, but allows higher-ups to stand by their claims that they did not know about the operation until February 2011. But information already received by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee shows affidavits for wiretaps that, according to Inspector General Michael Horowitz, should have led to further scrutiny by senior officials. "If you were focused and looking at the question of gunwalking," Horowitz said before the Oversight Committee this week, "you would read these reports and see many red flags." In his statement on the report, Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) said: "It's time for President Obama to step in and provide accountability for officials at both the Department of Justice and ATF who failed to do their jobs. Attorney General Holder has clearly known about these unacceptable failures yet has failed to take appropriate action for over a year and a half." [Source: NRA-ILA] |
Starline Expands Facility to
Meet Demand for Brass
Over the past several years the sale of handgun ammunition has steadily grown and caused some product shortages for the most popular calibers. To avoid long waits for popular boxed ammunition and the high retail prices they command, many shooting enthusiasts have turned to reloading their favorite handgun ammo. But like loaded ammo, reloading components are in short supply as well. To meet this growing demand for handgun brass, Starline Brass is taking action and expanding their Sedalia, Missouri plant to accommodate additional production and more inventory for the ever-growing reloading community. To increase capacity, Starline has embarked on a 15,000 sq ft expansion of their manufacturing plant in Sedalia, Missouri. The expansion will add almost 50% more manufacturing capacity and give them the space to add equipment to increase production. "We have seen an incredible surge in demand for our brass over the past several years," said Robert Hayden Jr., General Manager at Starline. "The most popular calibers never see the inside of our inventory bins because they are out the door almost as fast as they come off the line. We are committed to expanding our capacity to keep up with the demand." |
