On August 15, 2012 Ruger produced its one millionth firearm of the year, a Ruger SR1911 pistol which will be hand-engraved by Baron Technology, Inc. and auctioned off to support the NRA Institute for Legislative Action. On Target Radio Goes on the Air

This Sunday evening from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. On Target Radio will debut on AM560 WIND Radio. The live, call in talk show features guests in the studio discussing topics of interest to all firearm owners and Second Amendment supporters. Best of all, listeners will be able to call in and talk to our guests to pick their brain about the subject.
For On Target Radio's opening show the topic will be concealed carry for Illinois and our guests are experts on the legislative and litigation fronts. In our studio will be Richard Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association, the ISRA's Pro Bono Lawyer Ed Ronkowski, and Patty Deiters an ISRA range member and current president of the Will County Republican Women.
Pearson is the ISRA's lobbyist in Springfield and is at the forefront of the legislative situation. Ronkowski has been deeply involved in the litigation process on behalf of the ISRA and Illinois gun owners. Pearson and Ronkowski will bring listeners up-to-date on the status of concealed carry in Illinois, what's holding it up, when do they think Illinois will finally get concealed carry, what are the dynamics that come into play, and what listeners can do to help the process. You'll also have the opportunity to call in (312-642-5600), talk to them live and ask that question you've wanted to have answered.

South Dakota Extends Canada Goose Opportunities
South Dakota goose hunters have two additional opportunities to consider as part of their September Early Canada Goose hunting season. First, the Sportsmen Against Hunger program is able to offer an incentive through cooperating meat processors in South Dakota to process Canada geese harvested during the early season ending September 30th. Geese may be taken to cooperators and processed at no fee for geese contributed to Sportsmen Against Hunger for distribution to the needy. For information on participating meat processors visit

In addition, the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department invites hunters to introduce family members, friends or neighbors to goose hunting and have an opportunity to win prizes. Hunters may enter once for every new hunter they take hunting during the Early Canada Goose season. USFWS Expands Refuge System
Hunting in 14 States
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced the opening of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge in Michigan to migratory bird hunting, upland game hunting and big game hunting for the first time, while expanding hunting activities at 16 national wildlife refuges in 14 states. Notice of the 2012-2013 Refuge-Specific Hunting and Sport Fishing Regulations published in the Federal Register on September 11, 2012. The rule provides additional public hunting opportunities in fulfillment of the National Wildlife Refuge System Improvement Act of 1997. It expands the area for migratory bird hunting, upland game hunting and big game hunting in Big Muddy National Fish & Wildlife Refuge, Mo; expands big game hunting area in Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge, Ind; Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, Minn, expands area for migratory bird hunting, upland game hunting and big game hunting; and Chickasaw National Wildlife Refuge, Tenn expands area for migratory bird hunting, upland game hunting and big game hunting. While definitions of hunting categories vary by refuge and state, migratory bird hunting generally includes ducks and geese. Upland game hunting may cover such animals as game birds, rabbit, squirrel, opossum and coyote. Big game hunting may include such animals as wild turkey, deer and feral hogs. |

System Announced
OutWest Systems (www.ocats.com) has a firearm training systems that will work inside a residence using laser mode or at the range with live ammunition. With live ammunition the OCAT System (Optical Computer-Aided Training System) uses either your compatible spotting scope or the OCAT System variable power spotting scope to aim at the target. Attach the OCAT System camera unit to the spotting scope, plug it into your laptop with their software installed, start it up and fire your shots.
