State Police team with Fed to restrict
Illinois gun owner rights
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and the Illinois State Police are teaming up to pass legislation to destroy Illinoisan's right to privacy and gun rights in exchange for federal grant money. Representative Cynthia Soto (D) recently used parliamentary procedure to hijack an anti-drug bill (SB1034) and turn it into an anti-gun bill. Soto appears to be a minor player fronting for Holder and the DOJ which has promised the ISP millions of dollars in federal grants if the legislation passes.
SB1034 would require Illinois firearms owners to disclose their Social Security Number when applying for a FOID card giving the ISP access to such personal information as credit records, tax returns and payroll information. According to the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA), SB1034 will also essentially eliminate the reinstatement process for FOID holders who had their cards revoked for whatever reason prohibiting persons otherwise able to own a firearm under federal law from owning one in Illinois. It also provides for a 60-day waiting period on the purchase of firearms and ammunition for new residents of the state.
Finally, SB1034 greatly broadens the definition of domestic violence beyond the original intent of the law and will result in firearm confiscation for potentially minor situations.
The ISRA urges all Illinois residents to contact their State Representative and Senator to express their opposition to SB1034. Politely reminding them it's an election year and you take second amendment issues seriously. [Source: Illinois State Rifle Association] |
Wayne County fires Michigan man
for finding stolen firearm
John Chevilott found a gun while cutting grass for the Wayne County Department of Public Services and dutifully called the police. When the police didn't show up, he took the gun to a police station when he got off work; it came up stolen in 2005. Instead of being honored for his effort he was fired. "This man was fired by the Wayne County Department of Public Services for doing the right thing," Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, said. "We are stunned that this situation has continued for two weeks. Wayne County officials need to correct this nonsense. The police reportedly commended Chevilott but his bosses fired him for violating a policy forbidding employees from having a weapon on the job. Since when is it policy in Wayne County, or anywhere else, to simply leave a loaded gun lying around where it might be picked up by a child?" In addition to firing Chevilott, the county also suspended his supervisor for 30 days. The local labor union has filed a grievance on Chevilott's behalf. |
Survey finds few know Humane Society of U.S. really isn't humane
A survey conducted by watchdog group Humane Watch has found that 74 percent of the Human Society of the U.S.'s donors gave to HSUS to either help pet shelters or reduce the number of animals euthanized each year. What 90 percent of the donors didn't know was HSUS gives just one percent of its budget to local pet shelters. When donors were informed of HSUS's non-support of shelters, 80 percent thought HSUS mislead people into thinking that it supports local humane societies and pet shelters. As a result, near 50 percent subsequently said they are less likely to support the group now that they know it gives so little to local pet shelters. When asked what the primary reason the donor supports the HSUS the answers were: To help HSUS care for homeless dogs and cats in animal shelters and humane Societies (40 percent); To help HSUS's animal rescue team (3%); To raise awareness about animal cruelty (15%); To reduce the number of animals put down in shelters each year (34%); To support HSUS's farm animal protection programs (1%); and to support HSUS's political lobbying for anti-animal cruelty legislation (6%). None were true. [Source: Humane Watch] |
Free gun safety & conservation videos for schools
The National Shooting Sports Foundation is offering schools free educational videos about firearm safety and wildlife conservation. The firearm safety videos help teach students how to react when encountering a firearm in an unsupervised situation. The conservation titles educate students on how wildlife and wild lands are protected and how hunters support this effort with contributions amounting to more than $1 billion annually. Both the Firearm Safety DVD and Conservation DVD can be ordered online. The three separate videos contained on each DVD can be previewed online as well. The Firearm Safety DVD offers these three videos--"McGruff the Crime Dog on Gun Safety" for students in kindergarten through grade 6, "It's Your Call: Playing It Safe Around Guns" for students in grades 6 through 9 and "Firearms Safety Depends on You," which covers the ten commandments of gun safety and is for audiences of all ages. The Conservation DVD contains "Wildlife for Tomorrow," which is designed for students in grades 4 through 7, and two other videos, "The Unendangered Species" and "What They Say About Hunting," which are for students in grades 7 through 12. |

Steyr Arms announces pistol line price reductions

Steyr Arms has dropped the price to $560 on all M-A1, S-A1 and C9-A1 handguns; it represents an $89 savings. All three pistols are functionally identical with variations in barrel lengths, grips and capacities. The M-A1 is the full-size pistol with a 4-inch cold-hammer-forged barrel, a full-length grip and high-capacity box magazine, while the S-A1 is the compact pistol with a 3.6-inch barrel, shortened grip and a 10-round magazine. Both handguns are available chambered in either 9x19mm Luger or .40 S&W. Available only in 9mm, the C9-A1 features a 3.6-inch barrel, a full-length grip with a high-capacity magazine. All barrels are cold-hammer forged with conventional rifling, and chambers are fully supported. Steyr pistols feature polymer frames with a high grip and low barrel axis that mitigates muzzle rise as well as a perfect grip angle for a very natural point of aim. The frames include Picatinny rails for easy mounting of illumination and laser-aiming devices. The integrated trigger safety on the Steyr pistols offers a Reset Action System trigger that requires positive finger pressure to operate the double-action-only design. |
