Remington fires back at NBC news report

NBC continues to attack Remington and the firearms industry through sensational and factually inaccurate reporting. On April 11, 2012, Brian Williams again demonstrated NBC's anti-gun agenda with the claim that the Model 870, Model 1100 and other Remington firearms have a design flaw. That claim is demonstrably false and Remington stands fully behind the safety and reliability of the most popular shotguns in the world.

It wasn't enough for NBC to attack over 20 million Remington firearms; they also called the Second Amendment into question by suggesting that there is a need for increased government regulation of firearms. As the basis for its attacks, NBC continues to rely upon paid "experts" who have been repeatedly hired by plaintiff's attorneys to testify against Remington and at least 16 other firearms manufacturers.

The facts show that the Model 870 and 1100 are two of the most reliable shotguns ever produced - only one lawsuit has been filed in the last seven years and no litigation is pending against the trigger mechanisms of these firearms.

Deceptively editing and ignoring readily available documents and video evidence to drive NBC's agenda is an all too familiar tactic. Remington stands by the reliability and safety of its firearms and will fully respond to NBC's attempt to disparage these iconic American products. [Source: Remington Arms]

Sportsmen's Heritage Act passes the House

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) hailed the passage of the Sportsmen's Heritage Act of 2012 (H.R. 4089). The bill passed the House with a 274-146 vote. Sponsored by Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Fla.), the bill combines four legislative priorities that will expand recreational hunting, shooting and fishing opportunities and also reaffirms existing law and heads off determined bureaucratic efforts to deny hunters and shooters from using traditional ammunition. Included in H.R. 4089 is the Hunting, Fishing, and Recreational Shooting Protection Act. The bill amends the Toxic Substances Control Act to clarify the original intent of Congress to exclude traditional ammunition -- ammunition containing lead-core components -- and fishing tackle from regulation by the Environmental Protection Agency. H.R. 4089 includes the Recreational Shooting Protection Act, which requires National Monument land to be open to access and use for recreational shooting. "NSSF thanks Rep. Miller for his exceptional leadership in helping to expand access and opportunities for sportsmen and in protecting and preserving America's hunting and shooting heritage," said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF senior vice president and general counsel. "We look forward to seeking passage of the bill in the Senate."

Firearm industry has positive impact

on economic recovery

A National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) report details the significant economic impact the firearms and ammunition industry has on the nation's and each state's economy. Companies in the United States that manufacture, distribute and sell firearms, ammunition and hunting equipment employ as many as 98,752 people in the country and generate an additional 110,998 jobs in supplier and ancillary industries. These include jobs in companies supplying goods and services to manufacturers, distributors and retailers, as well as those that depend on sales to workers in the firearms and ammunition industry. These are good jobs, paying an average of $46,858 in wages and benefits. And today, every job is important. In fact, in the United States the unemployment rate has reached 8.2 percent. This means that there are already 13,430,000 people trying to find jobs in the state and collecting unemployment benefits. [Source: NSSF]

Beretta Trident program adds five new affiliates

Beretta and Sporting Heritage announced five new Affiliates of the Beretta Trident Program last month during the Safari Club International convention in Las Vegas, NV. The new affiliates include big game, upland birds, waterfowl and sporting clays destinations located in South Africa, Spain and the United States. "We're excited about the growth and expansion of the Beretta Trident Program and by the addition of these new Affiliates," said Jonathan D. Sherrill, Co-founder and President of Sporting Heritage Corp. "Now we can offer the traveling sportsman world-class destinations in all four categories." Each year at SCI the new Affiliates of the Beretta Trident Program are presented with a copy of the World of Beretta book, personally inscribed and signed by a member of the Beretta family. The largest group of new Trident Affiliates were added this year and included: James Muncey of Dover Furnace Shooting Grounds, New York (Clays); Yawan Kayali Fernandez of Ekland Safaris, South Africa (Big Game); Fernando Saiz of Fernando Saiz-Spain, Spain (Upland & Big Game); Beltran Cotoner of Fernando Saiz-Spain, Spain (Upland & Big Game); and Lola Weinreis of Cheyenne Ridge-North Platte Outpost, Nebraska (Waterfowl).

Potterfield's donate $3 million to SSSF

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) announced that Larry and Brenda Potterfield, founders and owners of MidwayUSA, have committed to donate $3 Million Dollars to the foundation and the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) for programs in 2012. The gift, a personal donation from the Potterfields, is to grow and sustain youth shooting programs for as many high school and college students as possible. The Potterfield's donated $1.6 million to the foundation in 2011 and this year's $3 million dollar donation is the largest one the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation has received to date. "Brenda and I are proud to partner with the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation again this year to support getting more kids involved in the shooting sports," Larry Potterfield said. "We strongly support initiatives like this because we believe we have an obligation to help change the future for the better." SCTP is a youth development program, originally developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), where adult coaches and volunteers model sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, and team work while using shooting sports programs to teach these and other positive life skills to SCTP athletes.
