Former Glock CEO convicted of racketeering

A Cobb County, Georgia judge found former Glock CEO Paul Jannuzzo (55) guilty of racketeering and two other charges including stealing a pistol and conspiring with former Glock executive Peter Manown to skim millions from the Smyrna, Georgia-based Glock. Jannuzzo faces up to 30 years in prison. His attorney, Robert Citronberg says he will appeal the conviction. Peter Manown pleaded guilty to three counts of theft in 2008 and was sentenced to 10 years' probation and no jail time. In return, he provided prosecutors with a statement outlining the embezzlement he and Jannuzzo had allegedly engaged in. Jannuzzo was originally indicted in 2007 but was reindicted in 2008 so prosecutors could add the charge of obstructing law enforcement when he allegedly lied to Smyrna Police during questioning. Had he not been reindicted, the statute of limitations would have expired on the gun theft charge. Without that charge, Jannuzzo would not have been in jeopardy under the racketeering charge. Glock founder Gaston Glock did not testify in the proceeding.

Illinois senator seeks 10,000 petition signatures

In an open letter to the public, Senator John Sullivan (D), 47th District - Illinois, thanked the over 3,000 people who signed a petition to speak out against legislation to force law-abiding gun owners to register their handguns with the government for a fee as well as tax ammunition. These measures, backed by Chicago's Mayor Rahm Emanuel, recently passed out of a House committee and could soon come up for a full vote on the House floor. "In addition to signing the petition, many of you visited Springfield to lobby me and other legislators as part of the Illinois State Rifle Association's Illinois Gun Owners' Legislative Lobby Day (IGOLD). As Chairman of the Senate Democrats' Downstate Caucus, I was fortunate enough to speak at the rally before hundreds of ISRA members flooded the Capitol," Sullivan said. "An important legislative deadline is fast approaching. March 30th is the deadline to pass bills out of the House and Senate. We need to make sure these Chicago anti-gun laws are not passed. This would allow us to present these signatures to legislative leaders in time to block these bills from passing." Sullivan hopes to collect 10,000 signatures by March 23rd.

Washington Supreme Court ends
Seattle parks gun ban

The Washington state Supreme Court has declined to review an October decision by the state Court of Appeals, reaffirming that the gun ban in Seattle's parks is illegal. This order marks a final victory for Seattle-area gun owners, the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), who had joined together to block enforcement of the ban. The case of Chan v. City of Seattle began in 2008, when the city of Seattle and then-Mayor Greg Nickels (D) enacted a rule that banned firearms and dangerous weapons from city parks, community centers and other city properties. In 2009, the city added another rule that banned guns from parks where children are likely to be present. In October 2009, the NRA and SAF asked the King County Superior Court to strike down the ban as a violation of Washington's preemption statute; it did so in February 2010. The preemption says the state preempts the field of firearm regulation and prohibits cities from regulating firearms. In response, the city claimed the ban wasn't a "law" or a criminal regulation and that it was acting in its proprietary capacity as a property owner.

In October 2009, the NRA and SAF asked the King County Superior Court to strike down the ban as a violation of Washington's preemption statute; it did so in February 2010 and the city appealed."

NSSF launches voter education website

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) has launched GunVote, a voter education website, and is encouraging Twitter users to tag their election-related tweets with #gunvote to keep track of related issues on NSSF's Facebook page. The GunVote website provides links to voter registration information for all 50 states, a guide to political races in voter districts, the latest polls and a selection of news articles so voters can read the coverage of journalists and others who are following the campaigns and providing insights. In the 2010 congressional election, some 46.2 percent of women and 45 percent of men 18 and over reported voting. Gun owners tend to be more active at the polls than this average but the point is there is a lot of room for improvement. With so many Americans having become first-time gun owners in recent years, NSSF says voter education efforts are particularly important in the 2012 election. Having exercised their Second Amendment right for the first time, new gun owners are acutely aware that the freedom to own and use firearms must be protected, giving them a powerful and perhaps new reason to go to the polls.

MidwayUSA 20 years backing NRA

030912aEvery year for the past 20 years, community members and business owners in Mid-Missouri have come together to raise money to defend Second Amendment rights thanks to a program started by Larry & Brenda Potterfield of MidwayUSA. In the spring of 1992 at the annual NRA meeting in Salt Lake City, Larry Potterfield sat down with current Executive Director of the NRA Foundation Wayne Sheets, to talk about what they could do back home to help raise more money for the NRA. The result was a "fundraising party" that attracted 1,000 people and committee of volunteers known as Friends of NRA. It would eventually trigger over 1,000 events annually across America. The 20th anniversary event is anticipated to be the largest event in the Mid-Missouri chapter's history, with an expected attendance over 1,200 people. Committee members are also expecting executive staff members from NRA headquarters in Fairfax, VA to be in attendance as well as Friends of NRA TV hosts Jessie and Matt Duff.
