Illinois poised to pass severe gun laws

Earlier this week two pieces of significant anti-second amendment legislation were moved out of committee and on to the Illinois House floor for consideration. HB1294 would require the ban and forced confiscation of every semiautomatic firearm in Illinois and HB1599 would increase jail time for owners of any guns banned by HB1294. The bills were written by some of Chicago's most ardent anti-second amendment politicos including Rep. Edward Acevedo; Rep. Ann Williams; Rep. Greg Harris; Rep. Barbara Flynn Currie; Rep. Karen May; Rep. Carol Sente; Rep. Deborah Mell (disgraced Illinois Governor Blagojevich's sister-in-law); and Rep. Marlow Colvin. Under the terms of the legislation, if passed, firearm owners would have 90 days to surrender all semi-automatic firearms to law enforcement. The Illinois State Rifle Association is urging Illinois gun owners to contact their state representatives and politely advise them that you oppose HB1294 and HB1599 and you expect them to vote against those bills if they come to the House floor for a vote. The ISRA also asks that you pass along this information to all your friends and family and urge them to contact their Representatives as well.

Feds give 10 years to international gun trafficker

Senior United States District Judge Malcolm J. Howard sentenced Steven Neal Greenoe to 120 months imprisonment followed by three years supervised release for exporting firearms without a license. On February 2, 2011, Greenoe (37), of Raleigh, North Carolina, was charged by superseding indictment and subsequently pled guilty to traveling in foreign commerce to deal in firearms without a license in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 924(n). According to the indictment Greenoe obtained pistol purchase permits and a concealed weapons permit, completed the Form 4473 Firearms Transaction Record required to purchase firearms, and purchased firearms. After purchasing the firearms, Greenoe took the firearms apart and disguised them as machining engineering samples and inert firearms and concealed them in his checked luggage. As alleged in the indictment, on nine occasions, from February 22, 2010, to July 25, 2010, he concealed a total of 63 pistols in his checked luggage and traveled from Raleigh, North Carolina to the United Kingdom.
MidwayUSA donates 500+ rifles to youth programs

MidwayUSA's Larry and Brenda Potterfield, continue their substantial support of youth hunting, shooting and hunter education by donating over 500 rifles to the Youth Shooting Sports Alliance (YSSA). "We believe in supporting programs whose mission is to preserve the future of youth shooting sports. The rifles we're donating to YSSA will be auctioned off with the proceeds going directly to the YSSA's equipment loan program." In 2010, the YSSA developed a practical plan to organize and administer an industry-wide firearms loaner program for supporting youth programs. The inventory available for loan currently stands at nearly 400 firearms and includes rifles, shotguns and pistols. Because of the popularity of this program with Boy Scout Councils, 4-H and other shooting sports programs, the loaner inventory is expected to double by the summer of 2013. Each rifle was shipped in a case donated by Plano Molding. "Plano is proud to partner with Larry and Brenda Potterfield in this generous donation to the YSSA," said Steve Jongebloed, director of sales for Plano Molding Company. "Whether it is a youngster's first gun case or first tackle box, Plano has been a proud supporter of youth outdoor education since 1952."

Colt offers modular multi-caliber LE901-16S rifle

Colt Defense has introduced its LE901-16S modular, multi-caliber rifle. The Colt LE901-16S was built with both the tactical professional and modern sportsman in mind. This rifle will be offered in black, with other finishes available later in the year, and has superior accuracy. This modular rifle can be easily changed from .308 Winchester (7.62x51 NATO) chambering to .223 Remington (5.56x45 NATO).

"This is an exceptional rifle for a wide variety of shooters due to the interchangeability in caliber," said David Ridley, vice president of Colt Defense, "With a simple swap of the upper receiver shooters can switch to the caliber they need for the shot they want to achieve."

The Colt LE901-16S rifle weighs only 9.4 pounds and measures 37.5 inches with the stock extended. It has an effective range distance of 700 meters and a rate of fire between 700 and 950 rounds per minute when configured for .308. New product eliminates cleaning patches

Super Brush has introduced the Swab-its Bore-tip firearm cleaning device; a new and more efficient means of cleaning and lubricating the bore of individual firearms. Each Bore-tip is engineered to fit tightly to specific bores and will thus do a more thoroughly cleaning and lubricating that existing patches or bore snakes. Initial Bore-tip sizes are 223, 224, .556 and 9 mil.  Sizes 30, 40 and 45's will follow over the next several months. According to the company, when lubricating your firearm bore with Bore-tips you will find that due to the engineered fit of the Swab-its Bore-tips the lubrication more closely follows the rifling of the barrel, provides a more complete lubrication and will use less lubricant. In addition to Bore-tips, the Super Brush Swab-its line also includes foam swabs for cleaning other areas of your firearm. For those of you used to using small cotton swabs to get into those hard to reach places only to find that you now have to fish-out cotton strings and fibers, the Swab-its firearm foam swab cleaner will provide an added advantage. Bore-tips are reusable - can be cleaned with your normal solvents or other cleaning materials, have been tried with most bore cleaning fluids and have found to perform well. A bag of six bore-tips is $4.98 including shipping.
