NEWS BRIEFS
The NSSF has filed a notice of appeal in response to a federal court's denial of its lawsuit challenging ATF's demand for firearm retailers to report multiple sales of certain semiautomatic rifles. The lawsuit, NSSF v. Jones, was filed last August in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia after BATF sent demand letters to nearly 8,700 federal firearms licensees and pawnshops located in Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas requiring them to report multiple rifle sales information.

NSSF - 2012 outlook promising after record-setting year

The 2012 SHOT Show, sponsored by The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), took place this week at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas. The Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT) and Conference is the world's largest and most comprehensive trade show covering all professionals involved with the shooting sports, hunting and law enforcement industries. With 630,000 sq. ft. of exhibitor space, it is one of the few places where, "If we don't have it, you don't need it" seriously applies.

The SHOT Show draws buyers and exhibitors from all 50 states and over 100 countries to learn about new products and services, and make deals on firearms, ammunition, law enforcement equipment, cutlery, outdoor apparel, optics and related products and services.

"This year we have 1,600 exhibitors with 20,000 personnel supporting them, over 2,000 members of the media plus more than 35,000 registered attendees," Bill Brassard, Jr., NSSF's director of communications, told On Target. "We're on track to hit 60,000 by the end of the show." Doing so will put the 2012 show over last year's total of 57,390 making it the largest show ever. The number of attendees has already surpassed last year's 31,769.

Statue of Liberty Glock named official 2012 SHOT Show auction handgun

One of the SHOT Shows most anticipated annual features is the SHOT Show Auction featuring historic, highly collectible firearms. Halfway through this year's auction, which is held on GunBroker.com, the number of bidders has exceeded 100,000. GunBroker.com has over 2,000,000 registered users. "It's great to see that the momentum of last year's record-breaking auction carry over allowing us to raise funds for the Hunting Heritage Trust," Don Hall, COO of GunBroker.com, said. This year's official auction handgun is a one-of-a-kind, hand-engraved Glock Statue of Liberty Gun. The Model 22 pistol features an intricate, hand-engraved tribute to the United States and the Statue of Liberty. The theme was selected to recognize Glock's 25th anniversary in the United States which coincides with the 125th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty. The highest bidder will also receive a hunting trip with Glock celebrity spokesperson, R. Lee "The Gunny" Ermey, and a framed drawing of the original Glock 17 signed by Glock President Gaston Glock. Also being auctioned is a Winchester Model 1892 takedown rifle hand-engraved by Baron Engraving, and two Ross Tyser custom made knives.

Weatherby adds youth water fowler shotgun Line

Weatherby's PA-08 pump shotgun line now includes models designed specifically for youth and waterfowl hunters. Available in 20 gauge, the PA-08 Upland Youth model features a short 22-inch barrel and a 12 ½-inch length of pull that is ideal for many younger shooters. A walnut stock with gloss finish makes the PA-08 Upland Youth eye-catching as well. A 12-gauge shotgun, the PA-08 Water fowler 3.0 sports the Mothwing Marsh Mimicry camouflage pattern designed to mimic and disappear into the surrounding environment. A special dipping process adheres the camo directly to stock surfaces providing exceptional durability. The injection-molded stock is lightweight and built to last as well. Hunters can choose between two barrel lengths: 26 or 28 inches. The PA-08 Upland Youth's metalwork is gloss black to provide a distinctive look while the Water fowler 3.0's metalwork is matte black to prevent glare. Both models have a three-inch chamber and are constructed of aircraft-grade alloys to reduce overall weight without compromising strength. A chrome-plated bolt helps prevent the action from binding and eases operation. The drop-out trigger system can be quickly removed for easy cleaning and reassembled.

ISRA seeks financial support to help overturn Cook County gun ban

The Illinois State Rifle Association is calling on all believers in the Second Amendment to help the organization in its fight against the Cook County gun ban. In a letter to the public the organization said, "As many of you know, the freedom-loving citizens of Illinois are saddled with an ardent gun-grabber for a governor and a state legislature that is absolutely worthless when it comes to protecting the citizen's innate right to keep and bear arms. The courts are the last hope for Illinois citizens who honor this nation's traditions and respect our Constitution. At the very least, the courts provide a pathway for justice to be served as we saw in the Heller and McDonald decisions." The organization is seeking much needed funds to continue to support the interests of all Illinois gun owners in the Wilson v. Cook County lawsuit. This suit seeks to overturn Cook County's arbitrary gun ban which prohibits Cook County residents from owning popular hunting and target shooting firearms. The gun owners of Illinois badly need your support. Donations can be made on the ISRA's web site.
