With this issue of Tidings I bring you deep appreciation to you for your warm hospitality as my wife Deborah and I have taken up residence in the rectory. We have been met only with great kindness and thoughtfulness in our first days here and we are grateful to you all. We have sampled some of the local restaurants; the Cub Scout yard sale; the Crackerbarrel Fair; some near-by shopping and a side trip to Medway which we had not exactly planned, but we found ourselves there anyway! (Lovely town.)
As I mentioned on our first Sunday with you, there are bound to be many questions to answer as we further this relationship between Trinity and St. John's. This is new territory for both parishes and for me which provides opportunity and challenge for us all. The good news in all of this is that you have a committed and faithful leadership team here at Trinity with your wardens, vestry, committee chairs, committee members and staff working closely together in the various ministries of the parish. You have a solid foundation on which to continue moving forward and I am very pleased to be part of this team.
On a practical level, here's some information which you may find helpful:
When is Fr. Bob where?
Monday - Split the morning between Trinity and St. John's to follow up on Sunday's events.
Tuesday - Day off.
Wednesday morning - Trinity
Thursday morning - Trinity
Friday morning - St. John's
Saturday - Flexible depending on need.
Is there any other time he's around?
I will be in one office or the other at other times and always available by appointment in the afternoon or evening as may be needed. My mobile # is 508-627-0842. Feel free to call and I'm sure we will find a mutually convenient time to get together.
What about emergencies?
In case of an emergency, hospitalization or other crisis, do not hesitate to call me immediately. This is not an intrusion - if it's in the middle of the night, call me at 508-627-0842 and if I wake up, I'll answer! Otherwise, leave a message and I'll be back to you as soon as I wake up.
What about rushing off to St. John's after the 9:00am service at Trinity?
I know there is some concern about my having time with you after worship on Sunday. Fellowship among the flock is important and believe it or not, the shepherd enjoys that time too! If you will bear with me for a couple of weeks, I think we can make some small adjustments to the morning which will allow me to be with you for a cup of coffee before heading off to St. John's - and just a reminder, it's not 10:30 at St. John's until I get there! Christians worship and pray together, which is both our joy and our duty as disciples of our Lord and Savior. Perhaps the eleventh commandment and eighth sacrament is being at Coffee Hour. Your wardens, vestry and I are aware of this desire for weekly fellowship and we are in agreement that we will be creative in working out some possible solutions.
Thinking outside the box and other efforts at institutional flexibility.
To be honest, most of us do not embrace change willingly . . . and yet it has been my ongoing experience as a Christian, let alone as a priest of the Church, that change which is thoughtful and faithful can bring about new opportunities which otherwise would remain hidden and undiscovered. I do not suggest change for the mere sake of change, but change which is necessary for building a new future. I believe Trinity and St. John's are poised for such new developments for building up the body of Christ in both Wrentham and Franklin. We are not alone. One image which may be helpful is the notion that our Lord precedes and follows us as we move forward into new territory.
What is required? Love of God. Love of our neighbor. A faithful spirit. A good heart. A strong dose of discernment and wisdom and a fair amount of prayer.
As I said on Sunday, September 18, Trinity has a proud history of solid ministry and I am delighted to have the privilege of joining you in helping to write the next chapter in the history of this fine parish. May God bless us and keep us, now and always.
Faithfully,
The Rev. Canon Robert D. Edmunds

STEWARDSHIP
The Stewardship committee has chosen as this year's theme, TRINITY FAMILY ... GROWING TOGETHER. This is inspired by the Holy Family statue that Father Bob brought from Jerusalem and which now graces our altar.
You Are Invited
Our family is having a wonderful celebration and all of you are invited. It's kind of like a wedding. When people get married they extend their families to each other much like we have done with St. John's. The ceremony and the occasion are planned with everyone having a part. Guest lists are compiled and invitations are sent out. But in this case the list is limitless. Not only are we growing with St. John's but we continue to welcome and receive all those in our communities searching for a family. Our work continues outside of our parish walls.
We know you will ask if you can help and the answer is yes. All families share the chores with each member doing what they can and teaching younger ones how to help. Before the party begins we will need helpers to vacuum and dust.
It would be nice if some people spruced up the lawn and yard so we look inviting. Inside, others may set the table with clean linen, flowers and some special bread and wine. We are happy to announce we will be hearing some inspiring stories. We've included uplifting music and a few more voices for a special number would be great. Are you getting excited? There's more...
We have planned special activities geared for the children. They love getting together and they are fond of their leaders who dream up fun and challenging things to do. We are so glad some of you are helping to get the word out to everyone. Our meal is more than magical: it fills a void not just in your stomach but also in your heart and mind! Where else could you find this?
We know your lives pull you in many directions. But first you must nourish yourself, set your G.P.S. and go out from here. We have a place for everyone at a limitless banquet table. As you reread this letter you will see references to upkeep of buildings and grounds, altar guild, lay readers, choir, Sunday School, communications and the host of our gathering, our priest. All of these areas and more need you and your financial support. To keep our large family functioning well we need a budget, just like your small family. We will be presenting more information in the coming weeks.
Please begin to prayerfully consider how you will support our TRINITY FAMILY ... GROWING TOGETHER.

Notes and Announcements
Christmas Fair
The theme for our Christmas Fair this year is "Old Fashion Country Fair". It will be held on Friday, Dec 2nd from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, Dec 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is Trinity's largest fundraiser so mark your calendars. There will be many areas that you can sign up for to help make this year's fair be successful! Over the next few months we will be having meetings to make crafts and discuss ideas. Please try to come, you don't need to be crafty and the fellowship is enjoyable.
Some of the ways you be able to help:
As you are doing your fall cleaning, put aside things you think would be good for our "White Elephant." Start collecting books for the book store. While you're out shopping and you see great bargains on toys, books , games and puzzles maybe pick up one for our "Children's Penny Social." Maybe create a "theme basket" or donate tickets or gift cards to special night out for our raffle table.
Are you or anyone you know canning this fall? We would love to have some sauces, jams and relishes to sell in our country store at the fair. A jar or two would be a great donation! We are also looking for any country style clothing you may have stashed away in your attic to be borrowed for our fair workers to wear.
We welcome any ideas you may have so please contact any of us, we'd love to hear your suggestions! Your Christmas Fair Committee, Verna Holst, Kathi Redman and Dianne SaundersChristmas Fair - Penny Social & Raffle It's not too soon to be thinking about the Christmas Fair. Judi Mitchell and Brenda McGinn will coordinate the penny social and large raffle again. There will soon be a signup sheet for any donations of gift baskets, large handcrafted items or other exciting prizes. Linda and Jessica Bacon have volunteered to bring back the Children's Penny Social and will be looking for donations of new children's toys. Soon there will be a box in the parish hall to collect children's penny social items. Ho Ho Ho! Pot Luck Supper Pot Luck Supper scheduled for Sat, 10/15/11, 6:30pm. Besides the Pot Luck Supper, the evening will feature a slide show of Armenia presented by Wayne Burt - focusing on his Peace Corps experience there.
Wrentham Food Pantry
Thank You Trinity, for helping to restock the shelves! The Wrentham Food Pantry is most in need of Mayonnaise, Ketchup and Mustard. As always, any unexpired non perishable items are accepted and always appreciated! Denise cell 508 241-5185

The Capital Improvements Committee is looking for Movers & Shakers If you want to be part of a dynamic committee with big plans and ambitious expectations, the Capital Improvements Committee (CIC) would love to have you join it. They are working to implement tremendous improvements in the parish hall, education wing, and kitchen, but they need more people on board to help them move forward at a brisk pace. This is an excellent opportunity to get in on the ground floor (so to speak) on one of the most forward-looking and enthusiastic committees at Trinity, but it needs more active members to accomplish their lofty goals. If interested, please contact John Redman or Jim Derick to learn more about the CIC.

Trinity Youth Group Members
As most of you know, we've been talking to St John's about having our youth join their youth group until we get ours up and going again. Blane Willey, who is head of St John's group, sent the following info about their first event - a trip to Six Flags on Oct 16th. They'll leave from St. John's at 10 am and return at 9:30 pm. Sign-up deadline is Oct 9th. Please keep Rachel Flum and Chris Young in the loop if you plan to go. It would be great if we have at least 1 adult volunteer from Trinity to go with the youth as well. Youth group is for grades 8 - 12, so if you know of other people that you think would be interested who are not on this list, please let me know. Let me know if you have any questions.
Here are the details:
On Sunday morning, October 16, we'll meet at St. John's at 10 am. We'll group together and leave shortly thereafter. The plan is to be at Six Flags New England at noon. We'll stay all day and will leave the park at 7:00 pm. On the way home we'll stop at Nicky's Pizza (home of the giant pizza) in Agawam for dinner. We'll be back at St. John's at approximately 9:30 pm. Everyone can call for rides home as we return to the church.
Fright Fest is the theme at Six Flags New England on Sunday, October 16th. Throughout the day we'll meet as a group at designated time intervals. A buddy system will be used for the time spent at the park, everybody will be teamed up---no one can be alone at any point during this day.
The cost of admission to Six Flags will be $22.00 for all Youth Group members. Admission fee payments (checks made payable to St. John's Youth Group) and signed permission slips need to be turned in to either Rachel Flum or Chris Young by or at the Sunday, October 9 Sunday Service.
Adult Youth Group leaders and Youth Group Parent volunteers will be the drivers from St. John's Church and Trinity to the Six Flags Theme Park and the return trip to St. John's on October 16. You'll want to bring money for a locker rental, food and drinks at the park, Nicky's Pizza and miscellaneous (arcades?). Make sure you turn in your permission slips and admission fee by October 9. This is always a fun trip.
Exciting New Opportunities at Trinity!

Editor's Corner
September came with a promise of extended beautiful summer weather into the fall. Let's hope it extends deep after that last horrendous winter we endured. Irene came and went and with her she took the Red Sox momentum and position as the best team in baseball. They were in a position of assured measure for making the playoffs and possibly reaching a late October date with history. As with anything in life nothing is guaranteed and our Old Town Team took a dive and, well ... the rest is history.
There have been perceptions that the Red Sox had a divided clubhouse and that they were not a cohesive, considerate team. They were not considerate of each other and not possessing a singular goal. They had reached a certain point in their journey and they took their eye off of the goal. They let up and then they faltered. Once on the down slope it was hard to recover and vacations are now being planned.
The Red Sox folly made me consider our journey together with Trinity and St. John's. Father Bob and Deb arrived and there was a sense of relief, a collective sigh ... whew, we made it! And that was true especially after the immense amount of work by both parishes to plan, search, find, secure, renew and welcome the Edmund's.
We met at St. John's for a picnic. Each team had their own colored jerseys and a chance to express that sigh. The distinction was helpful and yet incomplete. As we sat at tables and broke bread there was an air of hope and excitement. One of us commented that we are now just bigger, that our family had expanded. It is comforting to know that we will be working together in the job yet to do.
Our effort is not done and the playoffs are not guaranteed. Our economy is volatile, world peace is turbulent and there is much uncertainty in our lives. Yet it is up to each of us and together to continue our work and not let our eye off of the goal. We will endure (hopefully not another winter like the last!) and our work will carry us into the world around us. Our team is bigger and stronger. Our dream of growth and re-emergence is being realized. We have a great clubhouse and games still yet to play.
Can you believe it??
Peace,
Todd
