Preventive Care
As a kid, I grew up in the country where there is plenty of opportunities for exploration and injury. For starters, how about tobogganing down a snowy hill and hitting a small tree head on? Or swinging on a tree tire and landing on the ground -- tire and all. Or playing "Blind Man's Bluff," where one person is blindfolded and has to tag the other participants and instead runs into a basement pole and chips two front teeth? Yes, these were all fun events that led to my cervical damage that remains a concern as an adult. Had my parents known about chiropractic then, maybe we could have prevented the damage by correcting the subluxation prior to degeneration. As an adult, I now maintain my condition with exercise, massage and chiropractic.
Maybe this experience is why I passionately promote preventive care for my clients. Making self care a priority can save you more money in the long run if you just practice good habits and preventive care. I read an article the other day stating that Americans spend almost a billion dollars a year to relieve back & neck pain through medications, physical therapy and/or surgeries. This seems extreme, and alarming. A one hour massage is less then $100 a month , and the benefits alone are worth a billion. Acupuncture & Healthier Detoxification

When undergoing any detoxification of the body, it is important to remember to care for your body beyond just the cleansing of your liver, kidneys, and colon. Many people do not realize that our bodies have levels beyond the physical muscle and organs. These levels are the emotional, mental, and spiritual levels and are often called the 'energetics of the body'. This is what is meant when we refer to the Body-Mind of healing.
When undergoing a physical detox, it is necessary to include a 'detox' of the body's energetics. This energetic or life force, also known as Qi in Chinese Medicine, is the framework upon which all the cells and organs are constructed and maintained. The subtle flow of this energy courses through and around every cell of the body and it determines the health and wellness of the muscle, organs, blood, nerves and skin. Any imbalance or weakness in this energy can lead to the body's inability to sustain itself, or to fully cleanse itself during a detox program.
Acupuncture is a wonderful adjunct therapy for assisting the cleansing of the toxins from the body. Acupuncture helps to release and process the toxins from the body thereby promoting a healthier result of one's 'detox'. Detoxification programs often use bitter and cold herbs which can be harsh to your digestion. By balancing the Qi of the body, acupuncture can assist in keeping your system open and healthy during a detox regiment. In addition, acupuncture can aid in dealing with the emotional shifts that the body experiences during detoxification, improving and clearing not only the body but also the spirit. This is an important part of a holistic approach to health and a necessary step of any detoxification regiment. www.qigate.com

Marchelle Milligan, MS, CST | Restorative Care
Many people ask me how Craniosacral Therapy can help them. The goal of Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is to free up restrictions inside the skull and the spine, thus relieving stress, decreasing pain, and enhancing overall health in the central nervous system. A properly functioning central nervous system determines how relaxed, capable, and resilient the health of an individual will be throughout life. CST is restorative for many conditions, a few of which are headaches, back pain, dental problems and sleep issues.
I was able to experience the powerful effects of CranioSacral work after an auto accident. I had a fractured pelvis and experienced vertigo. I found that with combining several modalities I was able to heal quickly and fully. While each modality helped in different ways, it was the Craniosacral Therapy that seemed to tie it all together.
Craniosacral Therapy uses extremely light finger pressure to facilitate the release of restrictions in the body and optimize a movement pattern known as the "cranial wave". CST work differs from most other modalities by its lightness of touch, and the long, attentive duration of each contact. While CST focuses on helping the cranial wave flow freely through the head, spine and pelvis, it is not limited to those areas, and may be used to work with painful or restricted conditions anywhere in the body. What is Namikoshi Shiatsu
In Namikoshi Shiatsu, the pressure point location and the effectiveness are based on modern anatomy, physiology and pathology. Assessment and therapy are combined. The hands of the trained therapist are sensitive enough to detect abnormalities in the skin or muscles on contact and thus are able to determine an appropriate course of care.
Namikoshi Shiatsu treats the whole body, since everything is connected and every component influences another. Then it focuses on the local area that needs more attention. Namikoshi Shiatsu affects the superficial and deep tissues, as well as the fascial, myofascial, neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, circulatory, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, eliminative and Craniosacral systems. Pressure on the cells helps to move toxins that have become stagnant with disease, lack of use, or trauma. This produces a rejuvenation effect at the cellular level, enhancing cell function, increasing cellular metabolism and lengthening the life of each individual cell while extending the time tissues can exist in a state of health.
Namikoshi Shiatsu compressions help to realign muscle tone and eliminate restrictions in joint movements. This produces results of a longer duration than other treatments, depending on the severity of the problem. Namikoshi Shiatsu works with the components of the body as one inseparable whole. One part affects another. Tracy Tucker graduated from the California School of Shiatsu in 1996. Namikoshi himself commisioned the school to open here in California in 1974.
