NSAC/Dalhousie University Merger

On May 20 I was pleased to visit NSAC to share personally with the NSAC campus community the province's decision to pursue an exciting partnership. The province has opened formal discussion on a merger between NSAC and Dalhousie University.

Nova Scotia Agricultural College has been at the centre of economic growth and academic quality for Bible Hill/Truro and for the province for over 100 years. It has attracted some of the brightest minds in research and innovation for the agriculture and agri-food sector. It has turned out thousands of graduates that have become leaders in their fields and in their communities and it has provided hundreds of good jobs for local families.  You have been an important part of NSAC's success story.

It is this success that has attracted a merger with Dalhousie University. We believe this merger further positions NSAC as a national centre of excellence for applied research, innovation and education in agriculture.

Together, Dalhousie and NSAC can compete more effectively on the national and international stage. NSAC already has many close ties with Dalhousie. A merger will allow us to strengthen those ties and offers potential to build and enhance programs at both campuses.

Details of how the discussions will unfold are still to be confirmed.  The loyalty and support of alumni is extremely valuable to NSAC. We will keep you informed as progress is made.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please pass them along to alumni@nsac.ca or call us at 902-893-7950 and we will do our best to address them.

Sincerely,

Hon. John MacDonell, Minister

Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture
