Cultivating Awakening Every Moment
Spiritual practice takes many forms. Meditation i s a crucial ingredient in the alleviation of suffering and ultimate awakening of consciousness. There are also ethical factors that are both supportive of awakening and natural expressions of awakening. A strong test of an individual's level of spiritual realization, is the manner in which they conduct themselves in the world.
In Buddhism there is a list called the 6 Perfections that speak to these ethical factors that both potentiate and are expressions of awakening....
Generosity of Spirit
Your very life becomes a giving to All
Patience
You are awake and present to every moment
Ethical Behavior
Your impeccable external conduct is a reflection of your internal realization
Enthusiastic Perseverance
You exude a tireless and effortless dedication to awakening in service of the alleviation of suffering for all beings
Deep concentration
You have a single pointed capacity to focus on any task and/or you are cultivating this daily through meditation
Wisdom
You act from the heart of Truth, experience reality from the perspective of awareness itself, and act in service of the All
Two we may add...
Trust
You deeply trust life and the unique unfolding of your existence regardless of its surface degree of difficulty
No Excuses
You embody self accountability an do not let limiting beliefs or external obstacles get in the way of your awakening
Take one of these qualities each week and keep it in mind as you go about your day seeing when you exhibit the opposite of the quality you are attempting to cultivate. By recognizing the opposite feeling and correcting for it, you are beginning to strengthen the positive quality. Rotate a quality each week and call if forth as part of your meditation routine and hold it in your awareness all throughout your day for a week.
This is setting the foundation for our awakening and helps us be of service in our every day reality with our actions and very way of being.
