HIPAA Enforcement Alert
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through its Office for Civil Rights (OCR), is responsible for enforcing the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules. Although OCR has been enforcing HIPAA's rules since 2003, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, which was enacted as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, significantly enhanced OCR's enforcement authority. Changes Coming to OSHA's Hazard Communication Program
On March 20, 2012 OSHA issued a final rule that updates the Hazard Communication Program to align with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). GHS classifies chemicals according to their health, physical and environmental hazards. It uses pictograms, hazard statements, and the signal words "Danger" and "Warning" To communicate hazard information on product labels and safety data sheets (SDS).
