Notes from the Nutritionist
Greetings!
My first baby is about to arrive! While a book isn't quite the same as a newborn, The Best Homemade Baby Food on the Planet took nine months to conceive and develop, and it certainly qualifies as a labor of love.
In this issue of The Gourmet Baby, I'm offering an exclusive, sneak peek of the book, before it hits stores later this month. You'll be surprised to find that it's much more than a cookbook; it's a resource for helping your baby establish healthy eating habits and, for your toddler, it's a must-have reference to make peace at the table.
If the sneak peek below doesn't get you excited, I'm giving away 10 copies of the book! See the yellow sidebar for details about how you can win!
Delicious wishes,

Perfect Pumpkin & Banana
Pumpkin is a very healthy source of beta-carotene, vitamin C, and folate. While it's time-consuming to prepare, feel free to use 100% pure canned pumpkin. Make sure you purchase pure pumpkin and not "pumpkin pie" mix. The pumpkin pie mix contains sugar and other additives you don't want to give your baby. Introduce this recipe to your baby at 7 months of age.
INGREDIENTS
4 tablespoons 100% pure pumpkin
½ small banana
DIRECTIONS
Mash pumpkin with banana. Can be served warm, if desired.
This recipe, covered tightly, will last for two days in the refrigerator.
YIELD: 3 baby servings, 2 tablespoons each

FAST FACTS
When "Baby Fat" is Not Just a Phase
Many parents believe that children will "outgrow" their chubby phase during the first two years of life, but a recent study published in the peer-reviewed journal, Clinical Pediatrics, has shown this isn't the case. Data indicated that overweight onset began at 22 months of age with little or no intervention from primary care physicians. What should you do? Ask to see a Registered Dietitian, so your baby receives proper assessment and help, if needed. |
