Prepare For Worship
Sixth Sunday of Easter
Collect:
Lord, because You have promised to give what we ask in the name of Your only-begotten Son, teach us rightly to pray and with all Your saints to offer You our adoration and praise; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. (LW)
Readings:
- Acts 10:34-48
- 1 John 5:1-8
- John 15:9-17
Meditation:
The Lord Jesus Is with His Church in the Apostolic Ministry of the Gospel
The crucified and risen Lord Jesus is with His Church through the word of His Apostles, who "are witnesses of all that He did." He was anointed by God "with the Holy Spirit and with power" and "He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil," and so He was with those whom He sent "to preach to the people" (Acts 10:38-42). The Holy Spirit is bestowed on those who hear that apostolic preaching, who are "baptized in the name of Jesus Christ," so that "everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name" (Acts 10:43-44, 48). For as He came by the water of His Baptism, even to the blood of His Passion, so the Spirit testifies to the truth with "the water and the blood" in the apostolic ministry of the Gospel (1 John 5:6-7). By these means, Christ Jesus speaks to us, that His joy may be in us and that our "joy may be full." For this purpose He appointed the Apostles to "go and bear fruit," in order to make known His divine friendship to us (John 15:11, 15-16).

Meet our Australian Brothers and Sisters This week we invite you to meet Trungley Hall Lutheran Church, Trungley Hall, NSW, Australia (map it) and their Parish Sole Pastor Rev. Matthew Ker. Little information is available about this congregation on LCA's profile page. If you are wondering why the Pastor's name sounds familiar it is because he is also the Parish Sole Pastor for Temora Lutheran Community Church who we met last month (ABC Connect - Vol. II - Is. 32). Please remember the congregation of Trungley Hall Lutheran and Rev. Ker in your prayers this week. |

Resource of the Week
Theological Conferences on Apologetics
by Tobias Communications
Formats: DVD, MP3
Introduction from...
Rev. David Maier, President Michigan District, LCMS:
We have been told that to gather three such distinguished and knowledgeable speakers at one time, in one place, to address the needed topic of apologetics, is incredible... My prayer is that each presentation will provide opportunity for your faith to be strengthened, for meaningful reflection and mediation, and for renewed confidence in sharing the Good News of Christ crucified, risen, reigning, and soon to return.
Featuring...
Rev. Dr. Paul Maier, Dr. Adam S. Francisco, and Rev. Dr. Robert Newton
