ABC Connect
Keeping the ABC District Connected. |
Volume 4, Issue #4 January 31, 2011 Fourth Sunday after Epiphany |
Almighty God, because You know that we are set among so many and great dangers that by reason of the weakness of our fallen nature we cannot always stand upright, grant us Your strength and protection to support us in all dangers and carry us through all temptations; through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Lutheran Foundation Canada
Lutheran Foundation Canada is mandated to encourage and assist in the development of planned gifts created within the estates of individual's who are members of LCC congregations. Unfortunately, many people are still unaware of the Foundation and the assistance we can provide in developing such a gift. Furthermore, some individuals are also under the mistaken misconception that these gifts are being developed for the benefit of the Foundation itself. In actuality, the Foundation encourages such gifts and works on behalf of all congregations, Districts, learning institutions, auxiliaries and listed service organizations of LCC.
In addition, through congregational seminars, we provide useful information in the development of one's comprehensive estate plan, including powers of attorney, wills, funeral planning, and the transfer of assets upon death. If you feel that the members of your congregation could benefit from such a seminar, you can contact Allen Schellenberg via email or phone (877.711.4438)
The following seminars are currently scheduled within the ABC District:
- Sat, Feb 12 - 10:00am to noon - Bethany Lutheran, Campbell River, BC
- Sat, Feb 12 - 2:00 to 4:00pm - Faith Lutheran, Courtney, BC
- Sat, Feb 26 - 9:30 to 11:30am - Grace Lutheran, Port Alberni, BC
- Sat, Feb 26 - 2:00 to 4:00pm - Trinity Lutheran, Duncan, BC

Learning Community Opportunity
A learning community for LCC Church workers and Church workers in Lutheran Church of Australia: Are you interested in being a participant in a learning community where you will be meeting regularly (via Skype) with church workers in Australia? Like the Transforming for Missions (T4M) learning communities, this international learning community will meet every 4-6 weeks; there will be time for prayer, Bible study and a discussion of a book that focuses on the missionary task of God's people. If interested, please contact: Dr. Glenn Schaeffer at 1-888-474-0063 or email.
|
It's Coming!
Dr. Glenn Schaeffer will soon be launching a blog called "Go!" "Go!" will provide a forum:
- To advance missional theology and strategy;
-
To equip God's people to be missionaries in a post-church culture;
- To direct people to missionary opportunities and training sessions;
- To inspire God's people (and congregations) to see themselves as missionaries to their communities;
- To promote and share the stories of God's people as they participate in God's mission to the lost.
Watch future ABC Connects for the launch day of "Go!"

Pen Pal Congregations Did you have an international pen pal when you were a child? Pen pals typically develop a relationship with one another by writing letters to one another. We are looking for ABC District congregations to participate in a "Pen Pal" relationship with congregations in the New South Wales District of Lutheran Church of Australia. The "Pen Pal" congregations would determine how often they meet with one another and how they would develop a Pen Pal relationship (e.g. Skype visits, newsletters, etc.). The Pen Pal relationship might begin with the pastors meeting with one another and then lay leadership would be invited into the relationship and then the congregation. The possibilities of developing the Pen Pal relationship are endless ... depending on how creative and committed you want to be with the Pen Pal relationship. The purpose of the Pen Pal relationship is to connect Christian brothers and sisters in Christ for the purpose of
helping people get a bigger mission perspective, to share mission and ministry ideas, to pray for one another, and to grow our mission at home in our respective communities.
If interested in being a pioneering congregation in this Pen Pal initiative, please contact: Dr. Glenn Schaeffer at 1-888-474-0063 or email.

Pastor Humour
A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse. "But why?" they asked, as they moved off. "Because," he said, "I can't stand chess nuts boasting in an open foyer."
