BHL's Founding Director Retires

In March, 2012, BHL's founding Director, Tom Garnett, retired from the BHL project. Garnett oversaw the maturation of BHL from an ambitious idea proposed in 2005 to the global success it is today.

NEH Grant

BHL received an NEH grant for 260,000 USD to support the automated identification and description of illustrations within BHL texts. This will allow users to easily browse or search
for images meeting specific criteria directly within the BHL portal, while also further automating the BHL-to-Flickr process. Learn more.

Be sure to check out the nearly 30,000 free biodiversity images in the BHL Flickr

BHL at ALA Midwinter

January 20-24, BHL hosted a booth with the Encyclopedia of Life at the American Libraries Association Midwinter Meeting in Dallas, TX. The booth provided staff with an opportunity to introduce BHL to the approximately 10,000 conference attendees. Learn More.
