Welcome Anna Balkan!
We were fortunate to meet Anna Balkan this year.
Her uninhibited use of color and bold innovation come from a lifetime of seeing beyond limits and following the signs of her own journey.

Anna grew up in the Chernobyl area of the Ukraine, she learned to knit and crochet, making the things that were needed from what ever was on hand.  The circumstance proved to be the perfect training ground for an inspirational designer.   "I've never had any preconceived notions of which colors did or did not go together. Because I lived in a world that was so drab, I thought all color was beautiful."

Anna immigrated to the U.S. as a political refugee in 1992 at the age of 20 -- alone, unable to speak the language, and with barely enough money to survive.

Anna Balkan Of this trying time,  Anna recalls "It was an unexpected opportunity, but I knew from within that it was the right thing to do.  I had to let myself be vulnerable and trust and then keep trusting no matter how difficult things were at times."

Trust, tenacity, and constant renewal enabled Anna to transition from the streets of NY to the halls of a Top 5 consulting firm in just four years.  Anna returned to school where she earned a B.S. in Economics from Michigan State University.

She returned to her true passion and birthed Anna Balkan Jewelry shortly after having her daughter.  It is her mission to honor, inspire, and celebrate feminine power and beauty.  Today, she does that with a commitment to exquisite creations, designed especially for the exquisite beauty she sees in every woman and composed of the finest natural semi-precious gemstones and pearls from around the world.
     We have
a wonderful collection of her work.

New Glass Fish by Rich Fizer
Rich Fizer FishRich has a master's of fine arts, with a concentration in glass.
Rich manipulates the glass to form a wavelike motion around the edge of the bottom. Pieces include the imprint and texture of pliers' jaws where he has worked the glass. "Just to make it more ornamental," he says.Rich Fizer
Common in his pieces is a feathered look for the colored body, achieved by rolling and blending the glass "just like you would make ribbon candy," he says.
He has been creating his fish for 17 years, adding, "I made enough to pay my way through college." The small and large creatures are quite colorful, such as a lime-green blowfish with orange spots. Eyes, lips, fins and tail are clear. Also clear are the foot - for placement on a surface - and a loop at the top of the body--for hanging on a wall. Although he often uses blue and aqua green, the hues of water bodies, Rich says red, orange and yellow pieces have become especially popular this past year. We have a wonderful selection!

Q Evon
Q Evon Circle of Life Earring

While attending Parsons School of Design Q discovered her greatest skill was in wax carving. With this skill, and a passion for medieval metalwork and architecture, Q Evon Design was born. In 1992, she began her design studio.
Her current body of work includes fabrication, granulation, acid etching, reticulation & casting of gold, silver, and argentium. During this exploration, she found that incorporating a variety of methods brings about a richness in texture that gives each piece the unique and timeless quality that she strives for in her work.

At one point Q and I went to the same College in Adrian, Michigan, Carol from the
Arts Council went there too. The reason this is so odd is that it's a VERY small school!

We couldn't have been gone so long if it hadn't been for our wonderful staff - Lou - Donna - Lori - David - Irene - Shirley - and help from Rani. Thank YOU!!!

We are back now and totally renewed. You'll see lots of new art from us in the coming months.
