We're Thankful!
With thanksgiving and the holidays just around the corner, November is truly a month that is filled with reflection and celebration. It's a time to be grateful for the blessings we've received throughout the whole year.
We are thankful for living in such a beautiful, friendly town, for having such wonderful customers and employees, and thankful for being inspired every day.

Pat Holscher Watercolors at Carolina Creations
Opening During ArtWalk November 11, 2011 5-8 pm
 Pat Holscher of Washington, NC will be our featured artist for November and December. We hung the show on November 1st and the opening reception will be during ArtWalk, November 11, 5-8 pm.
Pat speaks about her work "It gives my life purpose to bring pleasure to others through my paintings. I love to create something unique that finds an emotional connecting chord in another person. The greatest compliment I can receive is the appreciation someone has for the art that reflects my internal thoughts and feelings, making me the person I am.
Over the years I have tended to work in series; this allows a degree of familiarity which supports experimentation. Shore birds are my most recent and succe ssful subject matter, giving people familiar shapes to which they can relate. However, with creative use of composition, color, and texture, I can encourage a new way of seeing those ordinary subjects.
Pat received a BA and MA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with additional study at Meredith College, ECU and has trained under many nationally recognized artists.
She has received awards ranging from Honorable Mention to Best in Show; most notably, American Watercolor Society's Annual International Exhibition, New York, NY in 2003, 2009 ( winning the Gold Medal of Honor), and 2010 (awarded Signature Status).

From Massachusetts we received ornaments made from shells, sand dollars, starfish and other gifts from the sea!
We have a nice variety.
Next we have large blown glass peppermint ornaments - very clever! They are carefully crafted by hand using centuries old glass blowing traditions and techniques without machinery or molds.
These artists use only a few basic tools and the intense flame from a gas blowtorch to heat the glass, add color and shape each piece one at a time.
To go with the clay reindeer shown above we have Santa, snowmen nativities, coasters and even reindeer earrings.

2011 New Bern Christmas Card & Ornament
For 20+ years Jan has been creating a new Christmas card and this is the 17th year for her New Bern ornament, boy time flies!
 Even after all those years there is always something new to paint. This years cards and ornaments depict the new Spider Lily sculpture, the Ada Mae, the Convention Center, Federal Building, City Hall and the Courthouse.

"Light Up the Season" Event Kicks off Christmas in Downtown New Bern!
The Downtown Council of the New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce and the staff at Salem & Associates CPA announces a new event on Friday, November 25 - Santa's Arrival Celebration in Bear Plaza - 4pm - 6pm - Santa will arrive in a carriage at 5 pm but come in time to write a letter to Santa, do a picture frame craft, make a piece of jewelry. We'll have live entertainment and refreshments! Be there to see Santa and his helper flip the switch to "Light Up the Season!"

For ages 3-10 - When you donate non-perishable food items and/or new, unwrapped toys between November 1st & 20th your name will be entered into the drawing to join Santa November 25th on a carriage ride through Downtown New Bern where, together, you'll flip the switch to light up his house in Bear Plaza for the Season!
Your donations will benefit local victims of Hurricane Irene.

Sunday Hours We've been open 7 days a week for about 15 years and yet we still hear "we didn't know you were open on Sundays!" Well we are not the only ones that are open.
