| "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" [Mark 10:17-22]
|
Powell Butte Retreat Center

Hello Teens, Parents & MI Staff!
We are counting down the days for another grace-packed MI Summer Program in Powell Butte, OR!
The theme this year has been inspired by Pope Benedict XVI's Letter to Young People, where he writes:
"Good
teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" [Mark 10: 17-22] This is drawn
from the Gospel passage where Jesus meets the rich young man...and shows us clearly how much Jesus was concerned with
young people, with all of you, with your expectations and your hopes, and it
shows how much he wants to meet you personally and engage each of you in
conversation.
The primary goal of this retreat will be to encounter Christ and to ask Him the burning questions: "What must I do? What must I do that my life might have meaning and purpose? What must I do to discover Your plan for my life?"
An incredible line-up of priests, religious, speakers, leaders and dedicated cooks have come together to inspire our MI Teens along their journey of Faith. For those who are not able to be present at camp, be sure to tune into our website nightly. We will be posting our TOP TEN daily photos. CLICK HERE for PHOTOS |

Don't Forget!
+ Please see list of things to bring & not bring. We ask that you take a close look at the dress code listed at the end of this email. It is awkward when leaders are put in the position of having to "dress-code" a teen, and it is never comfortable for the teen. This can be avoided by packing accordingly. + Teens are encouraged
to arrive and depart camp at the designated times stated on the
registration forms. + Only those Teens with
a signed parental permission form will be permitted to attend the
Program.
+ Minors must be
released to their parent or guardian unless explicit parental permission
is stated otherwise on their parental permission form.
+ MI Policy prohibits
its leadership from administering medication to minors.
+ All MI Leaders are
prohibited from driving alone with minors who are non-family members to
and from the camp.
+ MI Leaders are not
permitted to bring teens (Not even siblings or relatives) with them early
to be present at the leadership portion of the retreat.

 Fr. Anthony Maria, OFM., Conv.
Father Anthony Maria is a Conventual Franciscan Friar from Marytown* and will be serving as retreat chaplain for our MI Teens 2010 Summer Programs throughout the country.
Father will arrive MI Camp hot off the Divine press, having just been ordained to the Priesthood on June 5, 2010.
St. Francis' simplicity, love for the Eucharist, and devotion to the
Virgin
Mary remain at the heart of our Midwest Province of St, Bonaventure. This solid
Catholic foundation unifies
the friars as they live their 800 year tradition of Gospel fraternity
and deep
love for the Church. Our Franciscan identity is further shaped by the
life and
mission of St. Maximilian
Kolbe, our confrere who became a "Martyr of Charity" in Auschwitz
(+1941).
We strive to further his mission of evangelization by promoting Marian
Consecration and expanding Catholic media to build up the "Culture of
Life."

 Jillian Cooke, FKMI
Jillian Cooke is a Father Kolbe Missionary and on fire with the spirit and
mission of St. Maximilian Kolbe! She will be assisting as retreat director and
offering insightful talks on how to discover the purpose of life through
Consecration to Jesus with Mary. Jillian has the gift of inspiring youth to allow Mary to direct them to "Do whatever He tells you." [Jn 2:5] He, the
Christ.
My name is Jillian Cooke. I'm a 28-year-old Catholic American
who, on February 13, 2010 took vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience with the
Fr. Kolbe Missionaries of the Immaculata* in West Covina, California.
I
learned to live the Faith through the Militia of the Immaculata, in which I was
totally consecrated to Our Lady, and discovered the power and all-encompassing
spirit of St. Maximilian. With the Fr. Kolbe Missionaries I can be an instrument
in the hands of this Mother, an instrument for bringing about the authentic
happiness of men in Christ for the Glory of God. It is a gift, a call, a
mission.
*The Fr. Kolbe Missionaries of the Immaculata, are a secular
institute of pontifical right dedicated to leading all men to Jesus through
Mary. www.kolbemission.org

Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church The Sisters of Mary have frequented the National Center of Marytown, and how blessed we are that they will be joining us for our Vocations Day during MI Camp Oregon!
We are a community of Catholic religious women living authentic consecrated
life through vows of chastity, poverty and obedience with an emphasis on St.
Louis de Montfort's Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary.
Inspired by the example of our Blessed Mother and united with her spirit, we
find our strength and inspiration in contemplative prayer, especially before the
Holy Eucharist. Through this contemplative union we seek to be more effective
cha nnels of His activity in the Church. Our apostolate of joyful evangelization
includes work in parish schools, retreat centers, parish study groups, and youth
ministry in the Spokane Diocese. |

Thank Yous Are in Order!!!!
The MI is only as strong
as its members, and it's
the solid-gold heart within the Movement that makes the youth mission a reality.
MI Leaders and Volunteers have this way of tirelessly giving and not counting
the cost. What motivates them? To
really understand, you'd have to witness the contrite teens in long Confession
lines and their hours spent throughout the night in prayerful Adoration.
Here is a long list of THANK YOUs for all those who are sacrificing time, finances and sleepless nights to make MI Camp OR a success!

A Mother's Feedback
I would like to pass along a compliment on your recent M.I. camp in Auburn,
Washington.
It was with some trepidation that I enrolled my 16-year-old son for a
different kind of Catholic summer camp this year -- a camp that included a Bible and rosary on the packing list!
(Imagine, Catholics actually using rosaries and Bibles!)
I thought it all
sounded great, but I was unsure of how my son, despite his years of home
schooling, would react. Would this straight-forward, back-to-basics approach to the Faith -- all in a
summer camp setting -- be too much?
With tears in my eyes, I listened to my son's call last Saturday afternoon,
after the camp session ended. "Mom, it was great," he said, "better than the other Catholic camp! I was consecrated to the
Blessed Virgin Mary and my name has been enrolled! I have my own Miraculous Medal! Now, the 'Hail Mary' is my
friend! I said two decades of the Rosary this afternoon,
and then another decade, when I was upset (about a grandmother's health
issue)." Wow!
Sometimes, someone outside of the family can take the messages which a
parent has been trying to deliver for years -- to approach a young person in a setting, among peers, and break through on
a new and deeper level!
Thank you for the gift of bolstering my son's faith! May God richly bless you in your
efforts!
+ A Grateful Mom
