   | Medicare Part D reduces nondrug spending

 |   |   | A new study in Health Services Research by Christopher C. Afendulis, Yulei He, Alan M. Zaslavsky and the V-BID Center's Michael E. Chernew shows that increased drug usage associated with Medicare Part D reduced use of nondrug healthcare resources.  For the conditions studied, Part D reduced the rate of hospitalizations by 4.1 percent.
  A July Journal of the American Medical Association article by J. Michael McWilliams, Alan M. Zaslavsky, and Haiden A. Huskamp shows that Part D reduced nondrug medical spending for Medicare beneficiaries with limited prior drug coverage.

   | V-BID back on the table for Connecticut state employees

As we reported earlier this summer, the State of Connecticut has been considering a V-BID plan for state employees.  After failing to be ratified June 24, the health plan with V-BID elements now appears to be be back in negotiation.
