MedPAC Report to Congress: strong support for V-BID

 

 

MedPACThe Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) report to Congress once again highlighted Value-Based Insurance Design as a promising policy for steering Medicare beneficiaries toward high-value care.  The section highlighting V-BID is available here.  

 

MedPAC also highlighted V-BID in its 2010 report.

Growing role of V-BID in state health care reform
 

Last month, we reported on the state of Connecticut's proposed V-BID program for state employees.  This program was rejected by employees on June 24.  The Center will continue to track the progress of V-BID in states and is currently developing web-based resources to help communicate the value of V-BID plans as states consider ways reduce costs while maintaining quality of care. 

 

We are also working on resources for states considering V-BID in Exchanges.  A recent Maryland law included a provision that the advisory committee making Exchange recommendations shall consider V-BID.

CMS promoting free high-value preventive care
 

A recent CMS study shows that nearly 1 in 6 people with Medicare took advantage of the free preventive care benefits available because of V-BID provisions in the Affordable Care Act.  Medicare also launched a national PR campaign promoting the value of these preventive benefits, and Dr. Berwick made this video statement on the value of preventive care coverage.
