Greetings!

Resolutions . . . did you make any this year?  Here is how Webster defines a resolution:

resˇoˇluˇtion   noun \ˌre-zə-ˈlü-shən\

1: the act or process of resolving: as
a : the act of analyzing a complex notion into simpler ones b : the act of answering : solving
c : the act of determining

We have resolved for 2011, as we have for the last 65 Januarys, to actively pursue kids who are lost and love them to a relationship with Jesus.
What is your ONE WORD?

Dan Britton writes for Fellowship of Christian Athletes

and suggests that rather than making another resolution, we start the year by asking God for a ONE WORD theme for 2011.  In the article below he offers some great exercises and insights, whether or not you end up with a 2011 theme word.

wordsNow, if you are like me, you have done your fair share of year-end goal-setting, but, as time goes by, you begin to feel guilty as you fall short of the goals. For me, I got so frustrated at one point with the whole process of resolutions that I boycotted the whole idea and avoided setting any goals at all. That didn't work either. Instead, I just felt guilty about being the slacker who didn't set any goals. In both cases, I always wound up feeling defeated.

Despite all of the hype, I still love the fact that the New Year can be an opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start over. We are free to finally lose that 10 pounds, commit to daily devotions, win more games, train harder, pray more faithfully, spend more time with family, pay off bills, raise grades or even share Christ with more teammates and friends. But the reality is that those long lists of resolutions rarely become a reality.

One solution to this is to strip it all away and boil it down to one key word for the upcoming year, making it basic and simple.

So, let's get to the practical side of the one-word theme concept. Here are seven steps to help you discover your one-word theme. Keep in mind that the process takes time, but that it is worth it. Whether you are an athlete, coach, parent or business leader, this process can facilitate breakthrough for you in every area of your life.

Just the process of contemplating a personal theme word is healthy and refreshing.  I often ask my staff (and myself), "Are you abiding in Christ?  Are you spending quality time with the Lord? Are you visiting with him in the quiet?"  Nowadays "quiet" and "solitude" are rare commodities that have to be scheduled.  In fact, we encourage our staff to set aside a special day each year for focused personal renewal - no phones, no TV, no one else but you and God.  It's a time to revisit your calling and your relationship with Him.  As you contemplate your theme word, I hope you'll enjoy the process - spending quality time with Jesus!

Together (Hey, that's a good word...),
