Greetings!
In December, as we celebrate the the most real and authentic expression of love ever known to mankind, we offer you an interesting article by John Blake for CNN about how teens are becoming "fake Christians." Interesting thoughts about how mentors and teachers, parents and grandparents, can better influence the authentic faith of the kids in our lives. Hope you find it to be both inspiring and challenging reading. We did. |

More Teens Becoming 'Fake' Christians
(CNN) -- If you're the parent of a Christian teenager, Kenda Creasy Dean has this warning:
Your child is following a "mutant" form of Christianity, and you may be responsible. Dean says more American teenagers are embracing what she calls "moralistic therapeutic deism." Translation: It's a watered-down faith that portrays God as a "divine therapist" whose chief goal is to boost people's self-esteem.
Dean is a minister, a professor at Princeton Theological Seminary and the author of "Almost Christian," a new book that argues that many parents and pastors are unwittingly passing on this self-serving strain of Christianity.
She says this "imposter'' faith is one reason teenagers abandon churches.
"If this is the God they're seeing in church, they are right to leave us in the dust," Dean says. "Churches don't give them enough to be passionate about."
Dean drew her conclusions from what she calls one of the most depressing summers of her life. She interviewed teens about their faith after helping conduct research for a controversial study called the National Study of Youth and Religion.

One thing I believe is crucial to our faith - and is an immovable biblical truth - is that Jesus loves us where we are. He is the author of grace and loves us through our dirt, grime, messes, and warts. This is a message we need to share with our teens. Come as you are! Come to the fountain of living water! Our prayer life, our thought life, our social life don't need to be perfect before we connect with the father. None of us is perfect - but God alone. What a wonderful, refreshing message! Thank you, Jesus, for coming here with the gift of marvelous grace in hand! Ed Kaczmarek Fresno/Madera Youth for Christ |

An Event for EveryoneEugene Peterson -The Message There were sheepherders camping in the neighborhood. They had set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God's angel stood among them and God's glory blazed around them. They were terrified. The angel said, "Don't be afraid. I'm here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David's town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master. This is what you're to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger." At once the angel was joined by a huge angelic choir singing God's praises:
Glory to God in the heavenly heights,
Peace to all men and women on earth who please him. |
