This month I'm going to address compulsive hoarding. According to Randy O. Frost and Gail Steketee, professors at Smith College and Boston University and two of the first people to study hoarding in America, there are more than 6 million hoarders in America. If you aren't familiar with compulsive hoarding read this for more information.
"Am I a Hoarder?"
I'm frequently asked this question by a person who is truly concerned about the state of their home.
Take a look at this assessment to help you determine whether you or someone you know may be a hoarder.
Another question I'm frequently asked is, "Do you work with hoarders?"
No, I do not work with hoarders simply because I'm not qualified. I do, however, recommend other professionals who are qualified and trained to work with hoarders. Hoarding is a very delicate situation, encompassing more than just disorganization.
It is very difficult to overcome compulsive hoarding without help. Here is a list of resources if you or someone you love is a hoarder.
