Reconnecting with my Teenager through Healing Touch

Young children love receiving HT, but teenagers can be a bit more challenging.  Debbie Maggio, a Healing Touch Apprentice from Montville, NJ, describes how she used HT to create a special bond with her teenage daughter, Stephanie.

Debbie wrote:
As a parent of two lovely daughters, I know well the challenges of keeping the lines of communication open especially with teenagers.  My daughter, Stephanie, loves soccer and music. Lately, however, I've noticed that the extent of our conversation during our one hour drive to soccer practice has been "Hi" and "Bye", not to mention having to endure Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Timbaland on the radio!

I found myself growing frustrated over this lack of communication, but never did I imagine that Healing Touch would give me a way to reconnect with my daughter on a level far deeper than I previously experienced.

After taking the Healing Touch Level 2 class, I practiced what I learned with Stephanie and discovered that she was especially fond of the back sequence which she refers to as "the Hopi".

Although she has a busy schedule with school work and sports, I made a habit of waking her up each day by doing these wonderful techniques.  Nearly every morning before school, I go into her room and shut of her alarm.  Still half asleep, she eagerly requests that I "do the Hopi."  She is referring to a series of HT Back Techniques that includes the Lower Body Connection, Vertebral Spiral Technique and the Hopi Technique.  I gladly comply.  This wonderful ancient healing technique has allowed me to reconnect with my daughter in a profound and very special way.

I've seen a dramatic improvement in my relationship with Stephanie and the lines of communication are open once again.  I am so thankful for the gift of Healing touch and all the treasures it bestows!

Bamboo, rock and flower VThe Magic Eraser - Making HT fun!

This next article comes from Kathy Roman, Healing Touch Apprentice, from Pompton, NJ who does Healing Touch with her 8 year old son, Alex.

On Sunday night, right after finishing Level 1, I did a Chakra Connection on my son Alex. He loved it and had a silly smile from ear to ear. Even though he couldn't stop giggling, I continued until he completely relaxed.

The next evening, Alex fell on his back as kids often do while playing.  I immediately began clearing the area that hurt using Ultrasound which I nicknamed the Magic Eraser.  There was no pain afterwards and Alex loved it.  It was also fun for both of us.
Congratulations on a job well done

An Unexpected Result

Newly certified practitioner, Chris Flood,  is a Child Life Specialist at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center, New Brunswick, NJ.  Below she tells an amazing story of how she used Healing Touch to help a child during a surgical procedure.

Chris wrote:
I had been working with a 7 year old child who had a Medistinal mass (tumor) pressing on his airway.  I accompanied him to the OR where a surgeon biopsied the tumor.  The child had been given a light sedative to make him groggy and dull his memory of the event, but he could not be completely sedated because of the location of the tumor.  He was crying and moaning because he was frightened and could still feel some of what they were doing.

We were both positioned under a blue drape with only the child's neck exposed to keep the area sterile and to limit his view of what was happening.  I calmed him by speaking softly and and then began some Healing Touch.  I couldn't do the exact HT techniques because of all the people around the table, so I simply put my hands near his head and surrounded him in a golden and then amethyst colored light.  I held the intention for his best and highest good. He then fell asleep as the surgical incision was made moaning only once when a part of the tumor was removed. The procedure took about an hour.

When he came out of surgery he thanked the OR staff for everything they did, and smiled on his way back to his room in the pediatric intensive care unit. Two days later I followed up and did some art/play therapy with him. I asked him to draw his favorite part of being in the hospital.  He drew the exact layout of the operating room during his biopsy and where each person stood including the surgeon with scalpel in hand.  This was amazing to me because he was sedated and could not see anything from under the drape.

When I asked him to explain his picture he said, "This is when they did this", pointing to his neck. He then said "You were with me, right?".   His drawing and comments took me by surprise.  I asked him again, in case he misunderstood my question, "Are you sure this was your favorite part about being in the hospital?" He replied enthusiastically, "Yes!"

I now use basic Healing Touch in my work whenever I can.  I know that even when conditions are not ideal, Healing Touch works in many wonderful and unexpected ways.
