Using HT after surgery
by Susan Melchione, Level 3 student from Martinsville, NJ and Healing Touch volunteer at Morristown Memorial Hospital

I recently worked with my first blind patient who had abdominal surgery. He was experiencing nausea and dry heaves as a result of the general anesthesia. I was summoned to do HT to help relieve his discomfort. When I entered his room, he was sitting upright on the side of the bed. I briefly explained who I was and began doing some gentle Hands in Motion all around him. After a few minutes the heaving stopped and he began to relax. However, when he tried to lay down the heaves returned and he sat up again. This happened twice. I then decided to do Magnetic Clearing which is recommended to help release the side effects of anesthesia. Again, the heaving stopped, but this time he was able to lie down and remain in bed as I did a Chakra Connection. By the time I was finished he was in a deep sleep, no heaving and no nausea. His daughter returned to the room and was very happy to see him resting peacefully.

A Question of Trust
by Judy Stoddard, RN, CHTP from Wilmington, DE

There is a beautiful, unexplained and powerful side of Healing Touch that I call the Twilight Zone. Simply being able to feel the energy is humbling and inspiring to me. During a session there is a trusting of both the practitioner and the client and it is not so much an expectation of results but rather, a knowing that whatever occurs or does not occur is what is supposed to happen for both of us at that moment in time.

Since learning HT, I find that "trust" is the word foremost in my life. I am trying to let go of other words and thoughts such as "worry" and "control" and I no longer try to comprehend what transpired in a session. When a client asks, "What was that?", I find myself shrugging and smiling. I can answer that it was the energy moving, that we know energy goes where it is needed and offer information I have read or been taught, but I have no idea what actually happened.

The more experienced I become as a practitioner, the less I need to try to understand the technicalities of Healing Touch. And the more I learn about energy healing, the less I feel I know. But that's okay. It is a question of trust.

Classes:  Helping vs. Repeating

Both helping and repeating are great ways to refresh your memory of techniques. If you haven't done HT in a while, this will get you back into the energy and motivate you to continue this incredible work.

Helping at a class is free. The student helps the instructor with demonstrations and keeps the classroom and snack table organized. Depending on the number of students, a helper many be asked to participate in the class practices, but this cannot be guaranteed. If you want to be sure that you get time on the table, then repeating is the way to go. Repeating at a reduced tuition assures that you will fully participate as a student in all the class practices. To help or repeat a class, check the HTNJ schedule at www.HealingTouchNJ.com and call me with your preferred date. Hope to see you at class.

Techniques: Magnetic Passes vs. Magnetic Clearing

Magnetic Passes and Magnetic Clearing are both Level 1 techniques. Magnetic Passes is the term used to describe both Hands in Motion (a basic clearing technique) and Hands Still (a basic energizing technique). The term was coined to describe the quality of the energy (magnetic) and the way it flows through the body (passes). For those students documenting sessions for certification, be sure to use the term, Magnetic Passes when describing your use of either Hands in Motion or Hands Still. Magnetic Clearing is a full body clearing technique recommended for any toxic or chronic condition. For more information and a complete description of this technique, see your Level 1 workbook.

Student Questions

Q. Can the Hopi Technique (Level 2) be used in areas other than the spine?
A.  Yes definitely.  Try using the Hopi Technique on painful joints especially the shoulders, knees and elbows.  Use this amazing technique anywhere that you can "sandwich" the area.

Q.  If my hands do not become warm, is the energy still flowing; is the session effective?
A.  Yes, most definitely.  Sometimes it takes 10-15 minutes to begin to feel heat.  Other times, hands may remain cool if that is what is needed.  What you sense as coolness may be perceived differently by the recipient.  They may experience the warmth of energy flowing while your physical hands remain cool.  Other sensations may be a subtle vibration or movement.  Stay grounded, present, relaxed and focused.  Let the energy flow as needed for the highest good.
