One of our dear believers, Gilla Turgeon passed away on
Gilla and Michel Turgeon
 |
Tuesday after
complications from open heart surgery. She was only 64 years old. The
funeral will be held tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time at our church.
There will be many family members present who do not know the Lord.
Here in Qubec, the funeral of a believer is a wonderful opportunity to
proclaim Christ. Since Gilla knew that she might not make it through
the surgery, she sat down with us ahead of time to plan the funeral
service knowing that it would be a means of evangelism. She put much
effort into a written testimony of salvation that will be read publicly
and is included in the program that will be distributed to those who
attend. Will you pray specifically for the following:
1. That the
Gospel will go forth with clarity and power through the music, the
eulogies, Gilla's own testimony, and Mikes message from Job 19:23-27
2.
That edifying contact will be made with believers who were once a part
of the work here but moved to other churches, or abandoned church
attendance altogether during the problems of the past. We are saddened
by lingering hostilities, critical spirits, and jealousies among so many
of the first generation believers in Quebec City. As you know, God has
called us here to rebuild, and we take that calling very seriously. We
long to see God's healing balm of Grace at work in these situations! This is a vision that Gilla Turgeon shared with us.
There is so
much more to say but time is short. Catherine continues to do well but
still needs to learn more in the area of physical limitations. Our
first team arrives on Monday from Oak Ridge Baptist Church in
Tennessee.
