PA passes Worker's Compensation Reform

Pennsylvania passes important Worker's Compensation Reform

On Friday, June 24th the PA House approved HB 440. This bill, signed by Governor Tom Corbett on June 30th, will go into effect on August 29th and will allow sole proprietors, owners of LLCs, as well as members of LLPs to be covered under the Workers' Compensation Act. Prior to this bill's passage, these individuals were restricted from coverage by their workers' compensation they may already have for their employees. This lack of coverage has resulted in issues for sole proprietors, LLCs, and LLPs when contracts they wished to enter into required all workers to be covered by workers' compensation. Coverage is provided on a voluntary basis. There is no mandate for insurers to provide coverage, or for sole proprietors, LLC members or partners of a partnership to secure coverage for themselves.

The Cost of Teen Drivers

Teen drivers are among the "riskiest" group to insure. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drivers ages 15 to 19 are four times more likely to crash than older drivers, making car crashes the No. 1 cause of death for teens.

Even teens with clean accident records will face high car insurance rates for several years due to their lack of driving experience. At age 25, rates typically begin to decline, and middle-aged drivers enjoy the best rates. It isn't until about age 65 that rates begin to creep back up again.

REDUCING AUTO INSURANCE COSTS FOR A TEEN DRIVER

There are ways to reduce auto insurance rates for a teen driver, but buying a car for the teen and putting him on his own policy isn't one of them.

If your teen has a good grade point average in school, ask if your car insurance company offers a good student discount. If you're adding a vehicle to your household for the teen to drive, look for an older car with safety features that can lead to low car insurance quotes, such as anti-lock brakes and anti-theft devices.

Your insurance company may also offer discounts if your teen takes driver-training classes - both classroom and behind the wheel lessons are needed

But the best way to hold rates down is to make sure your teen keeps a clean driving record.

Choose from 10, 25 or 33 mile scenic bike courses for all abilities, plus a 1 mile kids ride through town. We will have SAG support, well marked routes and cue sheets, EMT at the park, food for registered riders, prizes, raffles, and more. Don't want to ride? Come to the park and support the rider in your family. Registration starts at 8:30 AM. $25 individual registration fee ($35 day of event) and children under 12 ride for FREE with registered adult!
