| Health Care Reform |
|

On September 23, 2010 the first part of the Health Care Reform Bill officially named the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act went into effect. This was the beginning of reform which has changes related to health care each year through 2019. Gallen Insurance is committed to keeping our customers aware of the mandates as they become effective. Implementation of the new mandates affects you on your first health plan renewal after 9/23/10 or if you changed carriers after that date. For example, if your health plan renews on April 1, 2011 that's when your mandates take effect. The 2010 mandates currently in force are as follows:
- Dependents will now be covered to age 26
- Pre-existing condition exclusions will be removed for enrollees under age 19
- Lifetime limits on essential benefits are no longer allowed
- You can't be dropped from your plan if you get sick
- Preventive services like mammograms, PSAs, annual physicals etc. are free
- No co-pay, no deductible,no co-insurance. The list is extensive. The key word is PREVENTIVE.
- New plans must clearly indicate the appeal process for coverage determination or claims
Look for our next Gallen E-News which will discuss the mandates for 2011. Please call Jay Mahoney, benefits manager at 610-898-6516 to answer your questions. |
