Greetings!

Wow, the birds are already singing and so is the muse this March! In this newsletter I share an upcoming opportunity for showing your work, a special announcement, and a few new studio tips.

Front Loading   

A term you may have heard me use... you won't find it in an instruction book because it is simply my approach to the work.

New Open Studio Hours 

Tues & Fri 12-6  

You've asked for it and now you have got it. Thanks to the new addition of our Studio Assistant, Mawadda Alaswadi, we are adding Tuesdays and Friday's from noon to 6 pm to our regular studio hours. The new hours start April 5th (with the exception of April 15 & 22 those fridays are closed). As always check the calendar and reserve your time there.

SilverWorks is proud to announce an opportunity for you to show off your work at Blair's upcoming show "The Fifth Element". Scheduled for the month of July in Glen Echo Park's Popcorn Gallery. Be thinking about Fire, Water, Earth, Air, and Void (those things beyond our everyday experience spirit, thought, and creative energy... story). Submissions taken June 15th.


Upcoming Classes
Beginning Silversmithing
April 21 - May 19, Thursday evenings, 6:30-9:30pm.
Handcraft silver jewelry while learning the basics of silver fabrication techniques. Learn how to use an acetylene torch, soldering, sawing, forging, and fusion as well as setting a cabochon stone. Explore good jewelry composition. This course makes you eligible for open studio time. Materials fee based on individual projects. More info: www.silverworksglenechopark.com.

NEWLY ADDED Intermediate Silversmithing Daytime Class.

Intermediate Silversmithing:
April 20-May 18 Weds10:30-1:30  
This course expands on the skills learned in Beginning Silversmithing with creating bezels for faceted stones, learning charcoal casting, applique/piercing, and  fold-forming.

Copper Enameling Workshop
April 23 10:30-4:30
Learn the art of creating a colorful glass finish with copper enameling in this one day workshop. You will create two finished projects. No experience necessary. Materials fee $25

SilverWorks has a new Studio Assistant! Mawadda brings her experience as a jewelry artist with a BFA from Dartmouth. I am lucky to have her join my studio as she will enable me to increase our hours which means more Open Studio time for SilverWorks students!
