Greetings!
Refreshing, colorful, delicious, natural and healthy. These are just some of the words used to describe amazing blended shakes known as smoothies. Smoothies are a great way to sip yourself healthy!

Smoothies pack a fun, convenient punch of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and vitality!

Smoothies have the same consistency of a milkshake, and originated in the Middle East and Mediterranean. People living there have enjoyed the benefits of blending fruit for generations, and now you can too.

Great Smoothie Boosters

Coconut milk, chia seed and fresh pineapples with some ice? I have many people asking me what they can put in their smoothies. Well, here is a list of healthy things to add to your smoothies.

  • Chia seed
  • Protein powder
  • Bee Pollen
  • Wheat Germ
  • CalciAim powder
  • Lecithin granules
  • Barley Grass powder
  • Just Carrots powder
  • Redibeets powder

So what do you put into a smoothie?

All smoothies have a liquid base. In my opinion smoothies don't always have to be dairy based. We love fresh fruit smoothies and these are great especially when one may not be feeling well or wanting to avoid mucus build-up in the body.  Here is what you can use as a liquid base.
  • Water
  • Fruit or vegetable juice
  • Coconut milk
  • Almond milk
  • Kefir
  • Plain Greek yogurt
  • Green Tea
  • Coconut water

Smoothies can also contain other healthy ingredients to create a meal in a glass. These include:

  • Oats - lots of fiber and may help to lower cholesterol.
  • Spinach and Kale
  • Raw almond butter - a good source of fat and protein
  • Tofu - a great source of protein, it's tasteless but adds a rich, creamy texture to smoothies.
  • Sesame seeds - grind them to get better absorption.
  • Nuts - finely ground almonds and cashew nuts can be added to smoothies for a thicker, chunkier consistency and great health benefits.
  • Dates, honey, ground cinnamon, cocoa powder, a lemon or lime or vanilla extract.

Making smoothies is all about experimenting and being adventurous. With an array of fresh fruit and vegetables, the possibilities are endless.

Spiritual Health

If you live in the United States, I trust that you had a wonderful July 4th yesterday!

This past Sunday, Pastor Don Brock shared a message that gripped my heart. He spoke about how important it is to love and share ourselves with others. You and I have such a contribution to make to the lives of those around us, but it may sometimes take us out of our comfort zone.

"Love from the center of who you are; don't fake it. Run for dear life from evil; hold on for dear life to good. Be good friends who love deeply ...."
                        Romans 12:9 The Message (MSG)

Until next time

Yours in healthy living,

Lere
