Dear ,
I trust that you well and encouraged today!
I'm a little late with my October newsletter as I have been in transition. I recently moved to a new office and am now renting an office at Elite Personal Training in Irmo, SC. It is so nice having people around me, I love people and when I am with them I feel like a flower in full bloom. This month you will be receiving two newsletters. The November newsletter will be coming out next Tuesday, November 22. We should be back on track by December! It's great connecting with you through this monthly letter and I would love to hear back from you even if it's just a sentence. Let me know if you enjoy my newsletters. |

Sugar Facts
With the sugar frenzy here in the US at the end of October, I thought it would be fitting for us to take a quick look at sugar - sugar is an addictive substance. The more you eat, the more you want! The average American consumes 48 teaspoons of sugar (194g) daily. Current recommendations indicate that we consume less than 50 grams of sugar daily or about ¼ of what we actually do. Americans also consume huge amounts of carbonated soft drinks. It equates to 5,570 teaspoons (or 52 pounds) of sugar a year just from soft drinks! Carbonated soft drinks are the single biggest source of calories in our diet providing about 7 percent of calories. How much sugar do you consume every day? |

- Causes hypoglycemia and unstable blood sugar
- Blocks calcium and magnesium absorption - leeches calcium from the bones
- Increases fasting levels of glucose

Be More Proactive
· Reading food labels - look out for sugars that go by the names of glucose, fructose, sucrose, lactose and maltose, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup
· Limit your intake of refined, sweetened and manmade foods
· Dilute store bought fruit juices - half water, half juice
· Eat a piece of fruit before you eat the chocolate or the cheese cake
· Use stevia or xylitol instead of refined sugar
· Try drinking plain coconut water. It's sweet tasting, full of all the vital electrolytes and the sugar content is very low compared to other beverages.
· Swap out sodas for seltzer water or spring water flavored with flavored stevia drops (root bear, grape, vanilla creme, orange, lemon drop and berry). I love the brand Sweet Leaf Stevia. This can be found at Health Food stores or http://www.sweetdrops.sweetleaf.com/flavors-of-sweetleaf-liquid-stevia.html |
