Dear  ,

Greetings to you. Yet another school year has come and gone and the summer holidays are upon us. This has been a year of pioneering and persevering! As I have interacted with people and continued to explore the area of health and nutrition, I have gained some wonderful insight. We never stop learning do we?

Granola update: We are working on the business proposal for the needed seed money we will borrow. This money will allow us to make the first 500 bags of Alive Again Granola. We still need a breakthrough with the sourcing of the ingredients. Hang in there; it will be here before you know it!

This month I want to share some information with you regarding the "BIG C"-Cancer. In the past few weeks we have come to hear of eight people who have been diagnosed with cancer, many of them terminal. This has been heartbreaking as these people are mothers, fathers and young children. What can we do to make sure we are walking in good health? What can we do to make sure we are not the 1 in 3 people who will be diagnosed with cancer sometime in their lifetime?

There are so many factors that contribute to cancer formation in the body. Some of them are:

·    Diet
·    Stress
·    Relationships (strained relationships, anger, resentment, bitterness and unforgiveness)
·    Money/debt
What is Cancer?

"Cancer is a state of cellular growth which occurs when normal cells become abnormal and continues to grow abnormally without apparent control and in the process destroying healthy tissues and organs.

"Cancer doesn't occur in properly nourished and vigorously healthy humans." Ross Horn - Health Revolution
"Where there is no constipation, there is no cancer." E H Tipper (1927)

"Cancer has been suspected of being a disease of civilization; I'm convinced that this is true." E H Tipper (1927)

The Most Common Cancer in the United States is skin cancer.

More commonly diagnosed Cancer types in the US are:

Colorectal Cancer
Colorectal cancer is also called colon cancer, rectal cancer, or bowel cancer.

Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer among women and the most common form of cancer in the United Sates. Breast cancer may be detected early with monthly self breast exams and clinical breast exams.

Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is a disease that affects the prostate gland, which is found only in men. The gland is the size of a walnut and is located beneath the bladder and underneath the rectum. Screening tests like the PSA and the DRE are available to hopefully detect prostate cancer early. Knowing the symptoms can greatly help also.

Lung Cancer
Worldwide, lung cancer is generally one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers and responsible for many deaths. Lung cancer is difficult to diagnose early, and many times more difficult to treat.

Pancreatic Cancer
Pancreatic cancer is difficult to detect because the symptoms are very similar to that of many other illnesses. It also is difficult to treat.

Thyroid Cancer
Thyroid cancer is a disease that affects the thyroid. The thyroid is a gland located in the front part of the neck.

Leukemia
Leukemia is a type of cancer that affects both children and adults. There are several different types of leukemia.

Endometrial Cancer
Endometrial cancer is a disease affecting the uterus in women. Endometrial cancer is difficult to treat at times because the symptoms of endometrial cancer may not appear until the disease has spread.

Kidney Cancer (renal cell)
It is a type of cancer that is slowly rising each year, however the death rate is decreasing.

Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma
Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is a disease that affects both children and adults.
The Seven Stages of Disease

1.      Innovation
This is the start of disease. Many people will experience permanent tiredness over a long period of time and to feel better and more energized, they will repeatedly reach for coffee or stimulants (Red Bull and energy drinks).  This just makes the matter worse.

2.      Toxemia
The body produces lots of carbon dioxide. When the body becomes overloaded and toxic, it holds onto things. The problem is that we don't exercise enough, drink sufficient water, or breath properly.

3.      Irritation
This is when there are un-eliminated waste products in the body that irritate the central nervous system. You may feel unsettled, queasy and irritated over a long period of time. The body is thus in a state of irritation.

4.      Inflammation
This is when the body gets to a state of inflammation. We get all the "itises." Arthritis, tonsillitis, glandular fever, irritable bowel syndrome etc. There may be some pain associated with this.

5.      Ulceration
This is when mass destruction of cells occurs. Legions or ulcers occur anywhere in the body (stomach ulcers). This usually results in much pain.

6.      Enduration/hardening
The body tries to patch itself up. Scarring and hardening of tissues result. The body will wrap cells around toxic substances which harden and tumors will then form. Tumors may be benign or malignant. Caffeine may cause benign lumps in the breast.   Removing caffeine from the diet could improve this situation. Lumps usually disappear after 6 months.

7.      Cancer
Diet and Cancer

Cancer cannot survive in an alkaline and oxygenated environment.  The correct diet is vital in preventing cancer. It is advisable to eat nutritional foods in their whole form.

FOODS TO INCLUDE

·    Raw fruits and vegetables
·    Beans, nuts and seeds, avocados and lentils. Eat more cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli. According to new research from the US, a compound found in the popular vegetable broccoli is capable of targeting and killing off cancer stem cells.  According to research published recently in the journal Clinical Cancer Research, the compound sulforaphane was capable of killing off cancer stem cells and prevented new cancerous growths from emerging.
·    Brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower and spinach, rutabagas and turnips
·    Eat more yellow foods. Carrots, pumpkin, squash, sweet potatoes, fresh apricots, oranges and cantaloupe, papaya, butternut squash.
·    Eat more deep-green leafy vegetables. (Contains chlorophyll-has been studied as cancer fighter), kale mustard greens, spinach, romaine lettuce, endive, turnip and beet greens.
·    Apples, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries, grapes, cherries, red pepper and plums
·    Alfalfa sprouts
·    Brazil nuts (rich in selenium) and almonds (contains laetrile which are supposed to have anti-cancer properties)
·    Fresh tomatoes contain lycopene, an antioxidant agent in tomatoes. It protects cells from oxidents associated with cancer. Reduces risk of many cancers, especially prostate cancer.
·    Cold-pressed plant oils such as coconut, avocado, olive, sesame and walnuts oils for dressings.
·    Fresh beet juice from roots and greens, carrot juice (a source of beta-carotene)
Fruit juices should be enjoyed in the morning and vegetable juices in the afternoon.
·    Drink pure water.
·    The good fats-Omega 3's  (Mila-a live raw food) See more info at: http://lifemax.net/lererobinson/
·    Ancient grains like millet and quinoa
·    Be as lean as possible. Normal is okay, but better to be on the leaner side.

Focus on getting your endocrine system fed properly as this system controls every system in the body. People weighing too much are at greater risk of developing cancer.

Be active and exercise; there is no getting around it. 60 minutes or more of moderate exercise or 30 min of vigorous exercise. It regulates over a dozen hormones. Walking is good (deals with stress).

FOODS TO AVOID

·    Limit or avoid dairy products
·    Peanuts, junk foods, processed refined foods, saturated fats, salt, sugar or white flour
·    Hydrogenated or trans fats
·    Alcohol-Research shows that if you drink one glass of wine per day you stand a
30% greater chance of developing breast cancer.
·    Caffeine
·    Limit intake of animal protein. Avoid processed luncheon meats, hot dogs or smoked and cured meats. Nancy Helmich from USA TODAY say's, "Avoid nitrites and nitrates. No amount of processed meat is considered completely safe." The American Cancer Society says people are not paying nearly enough attention to the relationship between obesity and increased cancer risks. For every 1.7 oz. of processed meat you eat daily, you increase your risk of colo-rectal cancer by 21%!
THIS A WAKE UP CALL FOR PEOPLE EATING HAMBURGERS AND PEPPERONI PIZZAS EVERY DAY!

·    Pollution
·    Additives and preservatives
·    Chemicals in cleaning agents and hair sprays, body creams etc. as well as pesticides http://www.naturalnews.com/028846_laundry_detergents_dioxane.html
·    Check out The Safe Shoppers Bible by David Steinman and Samuel S. Epstein M.D.
·    Everyday Cancer Risks and How to Avoid Them by Kerney Levenstein
·    Xeno-estrogens-chemicals in the environment that mimic estrogen in the body. These are: heating foods in plastic in the microwave, drinking too much bottled water, eating animal products containing the Rbst growth hormones, too much processed soy.
·    Maintain a pH of 7.35 to 7.45.

Spiritual Health

Many times we become afraid or overwhelmed when the Lord tells us to do something for Him. We can rest assured that when God asks us to do something, we can know He will provide ways for us to accomplish the tasks.

Joshua 1:9 "This is my command-be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

TESTIMONY FROM A Stage IV CANCER SURVIVOR

In June, 2007 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My breasts were removed and I was told all was contained and there was no need for follow-up treatments. I felt blessed and continued on my merry way.
For the next two years I ate what I always ate:  Desserts of all kinds, lots of pasta, pre-packaged junk food, fried foods, steaks-and LOTS of coffee, just to name a few of my favorites! Little did I know I was continually pouring "gasoline" (down my throat) on a spreading, undetected wildfire.

Last June I learned the cancer that was supposed to be gone was silently and rapidly replicating. They found cancer in 17 of 22 lymph nodes and 6 tumors in my liver.

"Health nuts" as I not-so-fondly called them, used to annoy me, as did their way of eating. I regarded it as bland and unexciting. But fortunately God, in His mercy and grace, immediately brought several key people into my life, of which Lere Robinson is one. Through their knowledge of the direct link between poor nutrition and disease, God highlighted my poor diet and showed me He designed my body-and the pure, whole foods that are supposed to go into my body.

God lovingly led me to stop eating refined sugar, inflammatory oils like vegetable and soybean oils, red meat and chemical/hormone-added meat, processed foods, chlorinated city water and caffeine (I quit all of this cold turkey). I made other changes, too (added raw foods and I juice), and today I have become an eager, excited and satisfied student of nutrition!

Today I have hope and a real fighting chance! With each delicious bite I take, I know I am sending out microscopic soldiers (God's food, broken down) into the bad cells. The diverse plants, crunchy nuts, power-packed grains (like chia seeds and quinoa), and healthy oils like EVOO or organic coconut oil are now a cancer cell's worse nightmare. My new way of eating allowed me to weather six rounds of chemo with almost no side effects. I felt well enough to work full time throughout my treatment. And, I am at peace, knowing I may continue to live indefinitely. I thank my lead oncologist at MD Anderson, and most of all, the Lord and those who He brought into my life.

Space does not allow me to share all I so happily want to share with you, but here I stand almost one year later. I am now fortified by the powerful and cleansing components in fruits, vegetables, seeds, grains and nuts-all designed by a deeply loving and brilliant God. I feel and look better than I have my entire life. The miracle that is taking place on my cell level is clearly evident in my skin. The rough, bumpy "alligator skin" I had all my life is now smooth as silk. My once wrinkled and cracked hands are now soft and young-looking. I am no longer constipated and I no longer feel bloated. I never feel lethargic, and I even lost 13 pounds as a fringe benefit! My face glows and people are amazed at the change.

I hope my story inspires you! -Anne Buck

As we head into the hot and humid summer months, I feel God urging me to draw closer to Him and take much needed time with my family.  Next school year will find our oldest girl starting middle school in a new building, and our two youngest are growing and developing their unique personalities.  As it is for many families, this summer will mark a time of transition for our girls and exciting new beginnings for our family. God is calling me to rest in Him and devote this summer to making precious memories with them.  I look forward to picking up where we left off and sharing with you where God has led me over these months of rest and reflection.  I pray that you likewise will enjoy a peaceful and relaxing summer.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Most sincerely,
Lere Robinson
