Finding Your Place: Becoming a Member of the School Community; Chinese New Year Celebration
February 11, 2011, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Kimball Hall Lounge, 246 Greene Street, NYC
- TJ (Tzong-Jin) Lee, Ed.D., Supervisor of ESL/Bilingual/Dual Language and Special Education programs in NYC Region 8/CLSO and currently Cluster3 CFN network 310, will speak about learning to negotiate the corridors of school: how to work within the school hierarchy, work and collaborate with colleagues, and generally become an effective teacher and member of the school community.
- Xueyang Gong will speak about the challenges of teaching 5 levels of Chinese: 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th and 12th grade Chinese; strategies she has used in class, and several projects she has done with her students at the Ross School on Long Island.
- Finally, we will all CHEAT! Play the Chinese teachers English-intercultural Awareness Test (CHEAT) game with us to test your awareness of culturally appropriate language, basic classroom management language, professional language, and basic school knowledge.

Chinese Program Survey |
We are working with our colleague Lynn Lin of the Lycee Francais to collect information about average classtime in Chinese programs in K-12 schools. Please take the time to help a fellow teacher by filling out this survey before our next forum. We will share the results with you in future newsletters and at our April 11 forum.
